And Jackson could also if not a spot at Aspley. Will be interesting come October to see what difference the change of format has made to these boys chances to be drafted.

Why wouldn't Hammelmann / Keays play for the Lions when available Dog rather than Redlands?
The club order is
Neafl snrs
Lions res
Qafl Club

in Hammellmans case the panthers wanted him this weekend but the lions wanted him for there reserves

Didn't realise they had been "recruited" by Redlands?? Since when did either boy become a Redlands kid? And why when they have the opportunity to play NEAFL footy with the Lions or alternatively play QAFL seniors with M'Side??

How come Thunder beat the Lions by just one point ? Is it the travel/nighttime factor again ? Did anyone see the match ?

The Thunder looked like they were up and about yesterday, they just wanted the ball more than the Lions did in the final Qrt and when they got it they kicked straighter, Lions kicked terribly yesterday and I guess with this there were a few of the NT guns rested for this game, as per above the Lions are very ordinary at present due to their injury toll, IMO - Injuries is the only Achilles Heel for the AFL Reserves in competing in the NEAFL and also of course some of their drafted recruits, slow old senior players on the way down and rookies that are not up to or don't look to be up to the new NEAFL standard.

They're both Redlands rookie listed. Each NEAFL club has up to 8 rookie spots on the list. Most contact he to play with their QAFL club or with the Lions as required. No guarantee they'll be used by Lions each week so they need a NEAFL affiliation.

Okay - and I imagine the NEAFL club has to drop a listed player off for these boys to be included? Was just confused bc i know when a kid like Dan Henderson does not play with the Lions he plays with Maroochydore.

Probably not Essendon like, they didn't have any positive test results!!!

Oh, and Klemke only half sacked.....

Co-coaches - WTF?

Doesn't smell right.

Is it true Qbn is struggling financially, may pull the pin on NEAFL?

Gossip is, and its only gossip, that the questionable techniques of their 2012 season has impacted dramatically on the club. On its fabric and its finances.

Football Manager on stress leave???

The jungle drums are beating very loudly for the ongoing survival of the NEAFL competition. I have heard that at least 3 ACT clubs and 1 NSW club are definitely out of the competition next year. Some NSW/ACT AFL heavies held emergency meetings with the ACT clubs last week to try and work through their issues and I have it on good authority that one of the NSW sides have definitely made the decision that they are out. Would it be worth continuing on with this competition if they all exited?

The competition may sort itself out;

Giants
Swans
Lions
Suns
Redland
Aspley
Southport
Sydney
NT
ACT

10 team comp, everyone plays everyone twice, 1 at home, 1 away.

So if you were an ACT team, you would have 9 games at home, 3 games in Sydney, 5 games in QLD and 1 game in the NT. I think you will find players wont be too keen on travelling that much at this level.

Might be a tad uneven Riva, with a Sydney and ACT side running amuck, how about an eight team comp

Lions
Giants
Swans
Suns
Brisbane /Gold Coast
ACT
Sydney
NT

Aspley, Southport and Redland go back into the QAFL with Morningside, Broadbeach, Labrador, Mt Gravatt and Palm Beach, without their share of the Brisbane NEAFL Rep players (say 35 players between 3 teams) and things go back to where they were - oh how simple life is and all would be happy = except for the fact that the 2 AFL Reserve sides can't beat any of the current 3 Qld NEAFL sides presently !!!!!!

Yes, a couple of reasons why NEAFL didn't go this way in the first place.

One is the travel issue that Gazza70 has mentioned...that's always an issue in Australian/NZ sports;

the other is to define just who would be "Sydney" and "ACT". Because a team has to originate with a community base (an existing team for instance), but if there is a "Sydney" and an "ACT" then where will the supporters, committee, water boys, trainers and team managers come from ?
People already doing those jobs will most likely stay with their own, and it's hard to see how extra volunteers are going to come out of the woodwork to support a brand new team with no culture.
Soccer, League and Union have all tried to seed new remote clubs like this and all have failed. And AFL is no stronger in NSW and ACT than those codes are in the places where they attempted.
