Bragging about specs is nothing if it set you back a pretty penny. Who brags about the Armani shirt they bought for $1000? It's the awesome shirt you got on sale for $3 that lasted you for years that you brag about :D

So out with it, how much did the computer cost?

What the hell do you need that HDD space for?!

Pretty nice rig however. :thumbsu:

Hmm, who needs 3 terabytes of space? How much pr0n can a person have?
Did you get that recently? Because it wouldn't cost that much now, would it?

I do alot of video editing (uhm non-pr0n o.o;; ) ..... its amazing how quickly it gets used up....... I also use it as a PVR so that uses up alot of space too.

Also Damien is right

RAID 10 means amongst other features.... half the harddrives are allocated for mirroring so if a hard drive from one of the three pairs fails....there is another one there to back it up.

ps: Harddrives are as cheap as chips...... you can get a 500gig one for around 150-200 bucks

Yep I am thinking of getting a new computer for games such as Crysis and Age of Conan - both due out later this year and both gonna be system hogs. At the moment I have a pathetic AMD 64 3000+ with a 7600GT graphics card. It just won't cut it!!

I just got a new computer.

Dont know what half the stuff is so can someone rate it for me please?

MotherBoard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6420
RAM: 2gb Kingston RAM 667mhz
HDD: Western Digital 250gb
DVD Burner: Pioneer 212D SATAII
Graphics card: Gigabyte 8500GT 512MB PCI-Express 16x
Sound Card: Creative SoundBlaster X-FI Xtreme Audio
ATX908 Computer Tower
Speakers: Logitech Z-4 2.1
LCD: Samsung 940bw 19inch Widescreen

Good s**t or not? I bought Colin McRae DIRT off Ebay, will it be any good?

How much did you pay for that system borgy?

Only real downfalls are the CPU and GPU, which are probably the most important parts.

Xeon 5150
Dual processor intel 5000Z mobo
4 x 400GB WD Raid Edition in RAID-5 (+1 hot spare) using Areca ARC-1220 8-port SATAII RAID6 PCIe Card + 36GB 10K Raptor (pass-through for OS)
dual 1000W RPS
Onboard graphics. Ha!

Then theres the non file server machine....

hey ppl

i want a new computer
just a basic p4 computer

dont care bout ram or graphic card as i can update them

anyone kno how much im looking at dont need a montior either

Not sure how much it was. It was a birthday prezzie.

What will the CPU and GPU affect most? Whats their job?

CPU affects processing speeds (so how fast things get done, and your computer runs)
GPU affects how fast images get rendered in games and graphics apps and the quality of graphics. If you don't play many games (or many graphic intensive games) then the 8500GT will be fine.

Everything else is pretty decent though.

If you're on a budget, AMD are the best value for money.

This is a pretty budget PC build, with all parts from places like MSY or CentreCom

CPU: Athlon X2 5600+ ($190) or 6000+ ($210)
Mobo: ASUS M2N ($89)
GPU: Gigabyte/ASUS 8600GT ($160)...if you don't care what GPU, then you could get something like a 7300GS for around $60
RAM: 2GB Kingston/Corsair 667MHz ($110)
Case: Cooler Master Centurion 5 ($115) - 430W PSU included
Optical: Pioneer DVR-212D ($51)
HDD: 250Gb Seagate Barracuda ($80)

All up around $795-$815 (That's if you build it yourself, which is isn't too hard to do)

If you just want a basic computer without monitor you should only have to spend a few hundred bucks... If you are not going to do much power-processing or games then you could even go for a Celeron or Sempron CPU which will save you money too. You should be able to get a basic box for $300-$400. You won't get an operating system with it though. If you want to run Vista, you might have to spend about another $100 for more RAM (2GB total). Remember to get a motherboard with a PCI-express slot if you want to upgrade the graphics card later. I would also look at 2nd hand options for even better value - just make sure you know what you are buying.
