League Preview;

Barellan

Coach: Matt Flagg

Last year: 5th

Prospects: After falling at the first hurdle last year Barellan should better under 2nd year coach Matt Fagg. Daryl Clayton showed last year he is a genuine match winner and with the inclusion of slick former Leeton team mate Kabe Stockton along with promising midfielder Jed Hillman the two blues should be ultra consistent after the majority of top line players only came together last year. The main loss of Adam Norton should be covered by the return of the Male brothers also. Look for the two blues to be there on the final Saturday of the year trying to break their premiership drought which has stretched to 12 years and handfuls of missed opportunities.

Prediction: 2nd

Cobar

Coach: Murray Rowbotham

Last year: 6th

Prospects: Plenty will depend on Andrew Hill if he plays then the blues are a chance of playing finals footy. They will have regular performers in Paul Gaucci, Murray Rowbotham and Shane Munro. Have blooded a number of young players over the past couple of season and could shock a number of travelling teams but like usual are likely to struggle on the road.

Prediction: 7th

Hillston

Coach: Billy May

Last year: Runners up

Prospects: Have been big losers over the pre season with top line midfielders Henry Weddell, Glenn Murphy and Jermaine Dixon all departing along with promising youngsters Neil McFarlane and Duncan McMaster. The club has picked up former Parkes ruckman John Nolan who with Brendon Murphy will forge the best ruck combination in the league, the inclusion of grand final winning forward Cameron Arnold should mean they will remain competitive but are likely to struggle against the top sides relying heavily on May to win the ball out of the midfield. The swans are likely to be chasing players and if they can snag a couple they will push for the top prize again after last year’s grand final fade out.

Prediction: 4th

Lake Cargellico

Coach: Phil Albury

Last year: Premiers

Prospects: Phil Albury’s first year in coaching should be a breeze if last year is anything to go by, they hardly looked like getting beaten in the undefeated year and have added Sydney big man Ed Wilson to the team along with Col Fisher who returns to the club. The loss of Sonny Bartholomew down the road shouldn’t hurt the most consistent club over the past decade. The strength of the team is they are consistent all over and know how to win the big games. Josh Smith and Aaron Hart are young stars that provide x-factor to the team. The Tigers are the hot favourite to collect their 6th flag in 10 years and continue the dynasty that has been created.

Prediction: Premiers

Tullibigeal

Coach: Brenton Browne

Last year: 7th

Prospects: Brenton Browne steps into the coaching role after returning to the club last year with the prospects for the hoppers better than last year. Have done well to get Sonney Bartholomew and youngster Phil Brown from up the road, the inclusion of Tim Matheson from Griffith will bolster the team with him and Bartholomew expected to be standouts for the team over the year along with Browne. If they are up at the start of the season expect the hoppers to cause some upsets and if they can build some momentum the finals aren’t out of the question.

Prediction: 6th

Ungarie

Coach: Connor Neyland

Last year: 3rd

Prospects: Last-years dark horse came to a grinding halt in the preliminary final and they are likely to struggle to get there again with the improvements expected from Barellan and West Wyalong along with the loss Bryce Koop and rising star Coedie Sloane. After returning to the league last year Connor Neyland will be a regular performer week in week out again in his first year at the helm and will receive quality support from Josh Ward and Lachie Rowlings. The magpies have blooded good youngsters over the past couple of seasons and if they can step up they may surprise some teams.

Prediction: 5th

West Wyalong - Girral

Coach: Kaine Malone

Last year: 4th

Prospects: Kaine Malone returns to the league with a new club and hopefully a new attitude. Last year injuries cruelled the defending premiers who went out of the finals with barely a whimper, the return of Grant Worner to the kennel and a fully fit squad will more than likely spell danger for the competition and are likely to the biggest improver along with Barellan. Malone and Worner along with Chase Grintell and Jesse Hampton will be regular standouts on a weekly basis. If Malone keeps the wheels on the Bulldogs could upset the favourites and take it all the way come the last week of season.

I think Lake may not be as strong as you think Josh Smith a HUGE loss over to Hillston and Sonny B another one of there major ball winners. alot of insode 50's come from the 2 of them and without them the delivery may be a little sloppy for the far from nimble lake forwards.

Hillston should benefit from Josh Smith coming over and i see Cam Arnold is back. doubt he will play forward but should dominate at CHB. Brendan Murphy playing at CHF should win the goal kicking medal quite easily and hillston will challenge.

Tulli could be the big mover with Sonny B heading over, a bit of pace is just what they need and if Brenton Browne has a big year and Dan bendall stay injury free i think they will go ok.

This weeks game between barellan and lakes should be very interesting with barellan virtually untested thus far and if can put in a solid performance and win would almost have to make them premiership favourites.

Re: Northern Riverina FL - 2010 Season

Whats happening with all the teams. any signings of players coaches? who is everyones premiership favourite

Hey all,
Whats the news,recruits,departures,coaches?

Barellan: Lost kabe stockton and Ben Evans-L/W Crows along with Jed Hillman to ACTFL club Ainslie. han't heard about Neil Halden whispers are uni? And Matt Flagg Return to L/W for there golden year.

Lake: Nothing yet, whispers are my ols freinds Sonny B and Travis Lightfoot are on the move.

As for-COBAR,UNGARIE,WW,AND TULLI-nothing to report.

I think the big mover will be hillston, the CBC is up to his old tricks agian, luring a pup from L/W crows, who will bring players, billy mahy no good going to Hay,still got charlie kelly and a good crop of kids coming up.Rumour has it Julian kelly has lost wait and got 13.6 in beep test,if thats not dedication i dont no what is.

IF any1 has more news dont be shy to put up,,cheers and GO SWANNIESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's all the movements this year, I hear hillston are throwing some coin around for some handy players. Does everyone have a coach?

Who are they talking to at this stage ? Seems they have money every year but dont do much with it ?

Will any leeton players return to barellan ?

Seems a few young players will try there luck in the farrer league with aaron hart to jets and sam broomby to temora. Maybe a few other players thinking about similar moves.

would be hard to see some Leeton players not returning to Barellan I've heard some people may have already signed on. Kabe Stockton is a chance to return.

Aaron hart to the jets is a good signing the kid can play and has pace to burn will have no problem adjusting to the level.

Did hillston really offer Jarrod Gornall $20,000 to coach?

you wouldnt get him to coach anywhere for less than 20k, but he still has a couple of good years left in the rfl. anything else out of the swans camp ?

barellan looking stronger with the 4 leeton 1st graders signing on and probably a few hany 2s players. wyalong look to be down a couple players. At this stage looking like it will be between lake, tulli and barellan.

thoughts ?

Finally first round is upon us and looking forward to see how all teams perform this weekend. Still haven't heard much from most camps but did hear a whisper that tulli have had a strong pre-season and looking the goods.

Tips for this weekend:
Tulli by 60
Lake by 45
Wyalong by 14

Finals is here!! Who is everyone tipping to win it this year? thoughts?
I don't think there is an "everyone". Tulli look hard to go past!! Undefeated and I'm not sure that any of the teams in the finals got close to them in their most recent games. Tulli by plenty for me, biggest danger... Lake if they can get that far.

How did Ungarie play finals when they were last of seven?

Hillston finished 5th and were supposed to play in the elimination final, but couldn't get a team. The league offered it to Cobar and they were in the same boat, so they offered it to the Ungarie boys and they said yes. Makes a good case for a top 4 considering its a 7 team comp.

Love it.

Tales like this , imagine if they went on to win the flag like Fitzroy did in 1916.

There wasn't too much chance of them winning the flag and spoon, Lake beat them by 140 or so points in the elimination final and they weren't able to make the grand final. It was interesting if nothing else!!

Who are all the coaches for next season?

Haven't heard much about players or coaches, very quite.
the only news I have heard is that about hillston, Deon aylett has apparently had enough of coaching, and Billy may only wants to play If the club is winning!!
Any other new/whispers??

This thread had died right off!!Are tulli and lake just a step above the rest??? Why are other clubs struggling so much??Also heard cobar have fortified a couple times in the past few years not a good sign for the future!!!

I hear young Steven Hickson has been offered the coaching role at Condo. Word is he already has a car load of mates coming across from Tulli. With a bit a cash to spend wouldn't be surprised to see them playing finals in their first season back in the league!
