Evans' season over

05apr05

PORT Adelaide forward Paul Evans' season almost certainly is over with medical scans yesterday confirming damage to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Evans will consult a specialist today.
"We think it's most likely an ACL which will mean a full reconstruction," Magpies chief executive Matthew Richardson said.

I know that I have revealed in the past that when it comes down to a question of PAFC v PAMFC, I come down on the Power's side. However, I still have an interest in how the Maggies go.

A question for those in the know. Can the 'Pies cover this loss?

It's hard to tell with Evans, he runs really hot and cold. I reckon the Maggies could play Clive out of FF and he'd do a bit of damage. Scott Stevens, depending on crow duties is usually good for a few goals at SANFL level. And the ressies have been kicking some decent scores, so there could be an option or two there. I think Ben (?) Cooke is back at the club and he was pretty handy as a tall forward.

It makes it very tough from now on. Corey AhChee is playing CHF nowadays and weve got Clive and S Stevens. But it does limit our true forward options. Evans was our only true forward.

Theyve got Ben Cooke in the reserves and Crow Ivan Maric should be fit soon as well.

Its more sad for him personally. Looked set on having his best year. He may retire on the back of this.

Seems to be the story of Evans' career. Just gets going, then has a setback. Cocky's due back soon too I beleive. Maybe he will play FF?? He's got a good lead and a pretty good set shot. He and Clive showponying in the same side might be a worry tho.

All the best Evo. Hope the op goes well and you can at least get back out there to watch the maggies play finals this year.

Definately some bad luck and he will be missed. AhChee is a great competitor, Stevens and Clive are generally ok but Evans was a polished goalkicker.
