Seems a little rough on Dogs. I think a better principle would have been - traded before players SCNs, get to top up. Traded after SCNs - you don't.

Rocket Eade said it perfectly. Buyers beware.

The other 13 clubs were "lukewarm" about it because some of them must have stayed away from the EFC players for this purpose.

Fair enough for Ryder, Melksham, Carlisle...but there's no way Port could have been aware of the situation when they traded in Monfries.

So all clubs should have refused to take any Essendon player tied up with this mess?

I am sure that would that would have gone down well with Essendon supporters.......

No they can take them. That's fine. But they'll have to live with the consequence.

Strange isn't it, the other day Mark Evans says the four clubs should use one of their rookies to cover the suspended players as they know their teams structures and game plans better than any player they could bring in. Why then weren't EFC forced to use their 6 rookies and players from their own VFL side to fill out their list?
So sick of rules being applied in a slap dash manner, either apply the same rule that you use for EFC to all or don't allow EFC top up players. Rule making on the fly never works

Well, that will teach them for dealing in good faith with Essendon.

If it is buyer beware fine, but then to be consistent it should be tough s**t no top ups for the EFC.

The AFL dont want to run a club short for the season, financially its not a good thing, therefore they need to prop the club up with topups.

St Kilda, Fremantle, Collingwood, Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs, Sydney, Melbourne.
All have players suspended under AFL rules not afforded top up players.
Essendon have players suspended under AFL rules allowed top up players.
