With the dogs win last night, a prelim from 7th, now every ladder position has made a prelim with the current finals system.

Dogs have a good record of losing Preliminary Finals, though they've never lost one from 7th.

2016 (7th) - ???
2010 (4th)
2009 (3rd)
2008 (3rd)
1998 (2nd)
1997 (3rd)
1992 (2nd)
1985 (2nd)

Certainly finishing 2nd or 3rd on the ladder has been a curse for the Dogs!

Just posted this on another thread:

In each of those 7 years, the Bulldogs first finals match was a qualifying final, where they got a double chance if they lost. They did lose in 5 years (1985, 1992, 2008, 2009, 2010) and had to win a knock-out semi final in the second week to qualify for the preliminary final. In the other 2 years (1997, 1998), the Bulldogs won their first final and qualified directly for the preliminary final before losing.

This is the first year since 1961 the Bulldogs have made a preliminary final after playing a knock-out elimination final/semi final in the first week.

Maybe this is what is needed to break the hoodoo.

Might be the year for new records. This is the first time ever that the Bulldogs have won finals in consecutive weeks.
