Queensland already has the most casinos of any state in Australia and it looks like it's about to double in size. The three current casinos in Queensland are Jupiters (Gold Coast), Treasury (Brisbane) and The Reef (Cairns). Pictures:

In October 2013 the QLD government announced plans for three new casino licences with one to be based in Brisbane and two others in regionals areas of Queensland. It was also revealed none of the existing casinos would have their licences revoked as a result. In May 2014 it was revealed the Gold Coast and Cairns had been selected as the two regional cities to receive casino licences. Pictures of the plans:

The proponent for the Brisbane licence is yet to be announced but James Packer's Crown group are considered to be the front runners. The Gold Coast's new casino will be incorporated into a cruise ship terminal that will be located about 2.5kms north of the proposed CBD area. The Cairns casino will be built on spare land in the northern area of Cairns.

Are we becoming the casino state? Thoughts?

WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN?!

In all seriousness, I'm not an expert on the economic by any means, but I'd imagine these new casinos would bring in many rich overseas visitors who are keen to pump money into these QLD money-machines. It's hard to argue that it would be bad for the economy. More jobs, more money being pumped into QLD, more tourist dollars, etc. I'm all for it. Let's become the Las Vegas of Down Under.
