International Rugby league and that bloody virus

So who do you believe ? Does V'landys have the NSW Government's permission to restart ? V'landys says yes, Hazzard says he hasn't heard from the NRL for a month.

Apparently the NRL tried to contact NSW Health and were told to go see the Premier and the Minister for Sport. Given Hazzard's mastery of the blame game over the Ruby Princess fiasco that is quite believable.

Read between the lines...NRL is not going ahead. Not until governments say so and not until social distancing is eased. The message it would send to the general population is contradictory and there will be no compromise when the government are flat out keeping us in order.
All they are doing right now is reeking of desperation and looking inept.

It’s already a disaster. They haven’t discussed it with the broadcasters, the government, and probably not even with the Players Association, because they haven’t even settled on a plan on how they’re going to resume. They just announced a date and expected everything to fall in place by filling in the gaps.

If so, that sounds unbelievably Mickey Mouse. Obviously they are under big financial pressure, but if State and fed govt haven't given it their OK, of course you can't see it happening.

would love for it to reccomence next month. We need something to watch and should the NRL resume it would be like christmas come early.

Meanwhile Gladys Brejiklian says she hasn't seen any letter to the NRL. If V'landys has the documentation sorted maybe he needs to show it, starting with Gladys.

Gladys was also all over the TV today saying 'The worst is yet to come'. If that is so I cannot see the NRL or any code getting a restart in NSW anytime soon.

letter from the Police Commish (although part of the State Emergency Services) rather than the Health Minister/NSW Health seems a little bit suss and feels like they're trying to cut corners.

Yep, now we know V'landys has the NSW Police Commissioner's approval for a restart. So there is no longer any separation of powers in NSW and it has become a Police State.

The AFL is now making noises about a restart but they are talking about a July or August start which seems more feasible.

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has pledged state government support for the return of NRL competition by May 28, stressing: “Rugby league is at the heart of everything we do in NSW.”

A close friend of Canberra coach Ricky Stuart, the Deputy Premier said he expected to receive some criticism for helping fast-track rugby league’s return, and within just seven weeks, ahead of other major sports and industries.

However, the state government’s eagerness to revive the NRL competition is, he said, driven by the “significant uplift” it would provide NSW, both economically and from a social and wellbeing perspective.

Pot. Kettle. Black.

Channel 9 faces the most severe public relations backlash for trying to kick rugby league while it’s down and facing its biggest crisis, writes PHIL ROTHFIELD.

Does that mean we can blame the NRL for the Ruby Princess fiasco?

No, that clearly lays at the feet of the sick people who boarded that ship first and foremost.

The news this morning is that the virus was bought on board by a kitchen hand.

The switch the topic I cannot see why the National Cabinet does not show some leadership here. Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt has immense powers under the Biodiversity Emergency declared last month. He has the power to say you play or you don't. Why can't he put a time line on a resumption for all codes? If May is too early to restart then say so and tell V'landys and McLachlan where they stand. The Government needs to set the agenda here not the NRL or the AFL.

I went on a cruise on the 25th of feb. We all have to sign a form which stated we had no flu like symptoms. I would've been beyond furious if somebody caused me to get sick because they'd lied.

Completely agree.
