Fighting Furies 16.13.109 Defeated West Coast Wonders 15.9.99 at Punt Road

S17 was one the Furies would be reasonably disappointed in. They did however finish the season with a flourish and took out a few scalps. This was one such occasion where the eventual premiers in the Wonders slipped up at the last moment to give the Furies the chocolate. The Wonders blew out in the first quarter, kicking 6.2 to 1.3 and looked to have closed the game out. Second quarter saw some fight back with both sides booting 4 goals and a handful of behinds.

Third term saw the Furies edge ever so closer before a final term flurry of 6 goals to 2 saw them run out 10 point winners in the upset. They were lead from the front by fumbler with 17 kicks in his 24 disposals while rfctiger booted 4.4. The Wonders pair in DemonJim and PVF were excellent all day and rued the lapse of focus in the last stanza. Both finished with 33 and 21 touches each with a game high 13 tackles to PVF and 2.1 goals.

ClarkeM had 1 mark and 2 handballs for a worst on ground performance.

Ah the Wonders. S17 premiers, S18 whipping boys. What went wrong is the catch cry of their fans and the first line of every news article about them this season. Just 2 wins and 7 losses paint a dark and miserable picture for a team eager to go back to back. Leaking goals like a condom on a porcupine and in desperate need of something to ignite their season going into the second half.
