Sam Soliman has a very important fight tonight in Melbourne against Les Sherrington. Having recently turned 40, a loss would probably bring his career to an end. A win however may well secure him a rematch with German Felix Sturm and then towards an elusive world title.

Some of our former Olympians are featuring on the Soliman vs Sherrington undercard tonight >

Cameron "Hammer" Hammond is up against a 36 year old Thai with a pretty terrible record.

and Damien Hooper is up against another 36 year old Thai with an even worse record than the guy Hammond is fighting.

Not surprisingly Damien Hooper disposed of his Thai opponent inside a minute of the 3rd round.

It's going to be hard to get opponents who want to fight Hooper. He's only had the 6 pro fights, but there's not many light heavyweights in Australia with his class.

Cameron Hammon also had a comfortable win. Beating his Thai opponent by UD over 6 rounds.

A couple more preliminaries and then the Soliman vs Sherrington main event.

Sam Soliman has kept his career alive by beating Les Sherrington by TKO in the 9th round tonight in Melbourne.

Soliman's manager David Stanley maintains they have a written assurance from IBF President Daryl Peoples that if Soliman beat Sherrington his next fight would be a return bout with Felix Sturm. Let's hope that assurance is worth the paper it's written on. We'll soon see.

As strange as it sounds, Sam Soliman may have jeopardized his ranking with the IBF by beating Les Sherrington, and in the process winning the PABA title the other night.

We'll know more once the IBF review their rankings, but it's possible Soliman's mandatory shot at Sturm's title might have gone out the window.

The word is Sam Soliman will fight Felix Sturm for his IBF title on May 31st.

This will be a grudge rematch after all of what has taken place since these two last fought.

Great opportunity for Sam Soliman to finally win a recognized world title.

Sam Soliman vs Felix Sturm has been confirmed for May 31st.

If Soliman happens to beat Sturm again (okay his last win was taken off him because of an inconsistency with a drug test) and win his title, watch Mundine try and swoop.

Mundine and Soliman have already met 3 times. Soliman was probably unlucky not to get the result in the first bout. But the bottom line is Mundine 3 Soliman 0. Thing is, at the present time Soliman would be a real chance of beating Mundine.

Sam Soliman flew out the other day to his training camp in Europe in the lead-up to his world title fight against Sturm on May 31st

This is Soliman's big chance at age 40 to win that elusive world title.

Was so happy to see Sam Soliman beat Sturm in Germany and finally win that elusive world title at 40. Well played Sammy the IBF world champion :thumbsu:
