Really interesting.

Sounds like Slot will have authority within the dressing room and on the pitch to coach, pick the tactics and select the team but that’s it. Michael Edwards and his 2ic Richard Hughes will be running the show outside of that.

Klopp’s increasing desire to have complete control over things like recruitment, extending player contracts, etc created enormous friction behind the scenes and led to a breakdown in what had been the most high functioning football department in the game and departures of the likes of Michael Edwards and his team in 2022 as Klopp overruled on signings like Nunez and extending a 31 year old Henderson for 4 years.

If the new structure is as described, our owners have not only restored that original highly successful structure, but placed Edwards at the top of the decision making hierarchy, with authority over the Manager.

You would almost say the traditional structure nowadays is not having the manager pick the players anyway, most clubs roll this way with their Sporting Directors doing this. Klopp wanted too much power.

Think if Klopp wanted to stay Pool would’ve been more than happy for him to retain that power. Slot’s a bit of a risk so makes sense not to give him full power. If he proves himself like Klopp he’ll most certainly get that eventually.
