In
Briggs or Preuss, we have no fwds there is no reason not two have two rucks, especially as all 3 can take a pack mark and kick.
Greene, he is our captain and talisman, no way he doesn’t play if he can.
Peatling, stunned he was dropped last week, his pressure and second efforts just put a smile on my face.
Fahey, Been playing well in the VFL deserves a shot that doesn’t involve someone else being injured.

Out
Keefe, he isn’t a fwd and he isn’t a ruck. Stop it.
Stein, tried hard but not there.
XO, needs more time in the reserves.
Hill, he is already gone in his head, nowhere consistent enough.

Thoughts...

1. Didn't think they did any favours to Flynn at the selection table but he performed admirably and has to keep playing, he is the clear third tall/second ruck
2. Ash's best game of the season looked pretty comfortable
3. Whitfield helped off a bit half back but primary wing is good for him
4. Finn looked like he belonged and at this point he just has to keep playing, promising debut all the traits he flashed
5. Dees were just absolutely ruthless countering on our mistakes, minor kicking areas were instantly turned into goals the other end and got completely blown out in the third quarter
6. Actually thought we hung in there quite well in the first half and looked pretty good just our entries going i50 were poor and wasted some good chances and ultimately those mistakes got punished hard in the second half
7. Tom Green another great game, he's legit what a star shame he missed a couple shots but give him whatever he wants
8. XO was pretty average might be time to finally give Angwin a go, although he isn't banging the door down
9. Bruhn can really play, was good inside and found it in general play he's an absolute must sign maybe his best game as a giant?
10. Keefe is very clearly not the option, Preuss should be straight back in for him next week
11. Kelly's best game as well I thought, found plenty of it all over, his best game of the season

Seems like the type of performance a team puts up against a great team and when they know there coach is gone just around the corner, can't let this hang on too long and let it effect the mood of the clubhouse in case guys out of contract get ideas elsewhere. Get on the front foot and send Leon off and show that you're doing something to fix this. What a miserable game.

The playing group has downed tools and are awaiting Leon’s replacement.

I’m not sure team selection is important or material until there is a change of HC.

The only exception might be someone like Briggs who must feel completely robbed of opportunity. Ironically though, he’ll miss out yet again as we finally play Preuss-Flynn.

There might be some players who are 50/50 with injury and might be happy to sit it out until the change.

Our VFL team would not have conceded this run of Q3 goals last night if they’d been on the field last night.

Thoughts on the sub selection.

I see zero purpose on having Riccardi as sub.

MdB seems to me like a more logical choice.

Riccardi should be playing VFL every week with Brander, and the two should be duplicating the structures being drilled into Hogan and HH.

At this point I’ve probably cued the punchline ‘What structures?’.

For me, this whole mid-fwd connection piece and the leading patterns of the fwds is a really strange one.

I find it hard to believe that Stevie J is completely clueless about fwd leading patterns.

I think the problem must lie with the forwards and mids themselves plus a failure to train mid-fwd connection. This might be McVeigh’s problem as much as Stevie Js.

Most likely it’s some ugly combination of all of the above.

Fun fact - brander played on the wing in the VFL yesterday.

Agree regarding Riccardi as sub and he and brander playing as key forwards in the VFL. The idea of our coaches that a KPF playing on the wing is a good idea is laughable. Hasn’t worked for us (Tomlinson, finlayson, Riccardi, Haynes, Brander and even Lobb)or any other side. You only need to look at the lions or Dees who play specialist wingers who absolutely dominate.

The mid-forward connection is difficult to pin point. Is it the slow ball movement of the mids that creates uncertainty forward or is it the lack plan/structure up forward that causes slow ball movement.

With a near quarter of the 2022 season done, the AFL ladder is worth a look as it is extremely bifurcated.

Assuming Geelong beat the Hawks tomorrow, we will be 3 wins and 30% behind the 7th placed team on the ladder.

Any team outside the top 7 is two wins or more back.

We’re already 0&3 against the top 7 teams, and if we lose to the Saints it will be 0&4.

The path to sneaking into 8th on the ladder looks much, much tougher in 2022 than 2021.

Tigers and Dogs will believe they can take 8th, so it will be exceptionally tough to crack 2022 finals.

I don’t think players are waiting for a replacement. History tells us that if it does happen it will be late in the year and they would know that

What we are seeing is a team out of form playing a rubbish game plan imo

Certainly we won’t see players sitting out games waiting for a change, their contracts are impacted by games played and other KPIs. Not playing damages their career

Gday guys. I had the Giants in the 8 pre-season and haven't changed my opinion. Pretty tough draw so far. Toby back this week and 5 of the next 6 games at home in Syd or Canberra, with the away game v Adelaide. See how it looks after round 10.

Another game for the S#%^house coaches to lose and demotivate the players
My team not that it will happen
I would consider resting Haynes if r Whitfield but as the game is a must win I am all chips in
Need the small defenders with Hill, Gresham, Butler and Higgins all capable so wingers Ash and Kennedy to zone back at times
Flynn and Preuss to rotate ruck forward and target down the line and inside 50
Greene to play deep as a target at times
Taranto to play more forward his defensive running is atrocious and I hope the coaches are calling him out on it
Coniglio defensive on Steele

Perryman Taylor Haynes
Cumming Stein Whitfield
Ash Kelly Kennedy
Taranto HH Bruhn
Hill Hogan Greene
Preuss Green Coniglio
Idun Flynn Ward Callaghan
Medi-sub Peatling

Like your thinking I would have Hill out the team and Peatling in. Wouldn’t mind seeing Fahey at some stage as well maybe for Kennedy or Whitfield if he misses due to soreness.

I honestly don't know what to expect this week.

It's not a line-up problem. The players just don't seem to be taking it seriously as a team. If they were we would never have lost to Richmond.

We seem a bit directionless.
And it's hard to blame them! Coach seems like a dead man walking at this point why would they listen to a coach that's not going to be there soon.

Toby back this week - big dick energy returns for us and we'll look alot better this week. Toby's presence has that effect on the team.

Expect those performing poor lately (Hello Whitfield) to look alot better this week.

We love friday nights in Canberra as well :)
