Had an interesting experience with tinder - rewind 4 weeks ago I had never heard of it. Until one night I was sitting around at a dinner party with my fiancé, 3 other couples and a single mate. Single mate was talking about it so I downloaded the app to see what all the fuss was about. Blokes gathered around at we investigated, chics did the same. Harmless fun - I thought. Hadn't touched the thing since until I deleted it a week or so ago.

Anyway 4 weeks down the track, I got a phone call from a mate yesterday who got word 'So and So' (fiancé's friend) saw me on tinder and was dark at me telling all of my fiancés friends (many who are mine now) what an adulterous p*ick I am blah blah blah...so now I'm bad news with everyone, notably a few married couples and single mothers who got word of this and are disgusted at the heinous crime I have committed, and should have my balls cut off.

Before word got to my fiancé I told her - she said I was a d*ck for having it on my phone in the first place, but really couldn't give a rats and didn't think it was that big a deal. To be honest, neither did I - end of the day its just an objective, shallow gimmick - its not like I've been out dating and sleeping with other women, having secret affairs or anything or anything, god forbid, actually interacting and communicating with the opposite sex IN PERSON.

Is this what the world has come to - a man's integrity is judged by something so pathetic?

People actually use this thing to hook up? This is the lamest thing Ive ever heard. What ever happened to the pub?
People go to the pubs and sit on their phones these days. Technology has changed things.

there seems to be a lot more shagging going on through tinder than the pub to be honest. I haven't used it (no smartphone) but the people i know on it are getting a lot of action.

If your fiance was there when you downloaded the app then why was she surprised when she found out you had it?

Nothing happened to the pub. Have you used Tinder? You can go from a swipe to a shag in record time. Not lame at all.

Not lame at all.
I wouldn't call tinder lame but there seems to be something more meritorious about going out at night and picking up a lass and going through the whole process and waking up in the morning thinking "I've still got it" rather than just sending a tinger msg "DTF?" and eventually getting a yes.

I agree but methods of picking up or getting a date are always evolving. In a bygone era you'd have to write a letter to her father.

She wasn't surprised - she just thought I was an idiot for having it on my phone still. Didn't really give a rats TBH. She just more pissed off she has to deal with some of her moron friends who now think Im an adulterous bastard.

Exactly - and anyone can doctor a selfie these days, if the most horrendous can look passable under the correct filter and with the right angle.

Sounds better than blowing a heap of money at the pub and going home empty handed anyway and waking up with a s**t hangover.

Not sure you'd say that when you rock up to a restaurant/bar and are greeted by a whale you need to entertain...awkward

Out to a pub, I agree. But if you are going to a night club for any other reason other than picking up then there's something wrong with you IMO. Nothing enjoyable about clubs at all.

Righto Nigel No-fun.

Mind you, I remember the days gone by when the Hip-E club in Perth was the most magical place in the world to get pissed. Now its a sess-pit of douche and horrible music - pretty standard these days Im guessing

Rubbish music, dirty, s**t people, overpriced, bouncers who think they're protecting the North Korean border.

Though to be honest, and this will make me sound like an old man, I'd look past all those things if these places had more options for a nice comfy place to sit down in between bouts of dancing. I hate standing too long.

I agree, but it's possible to do both of these things in a normal week...

That's true but my post was in response to someone who asked what happened to going to the pub to pick up.

Yeah that's fair enough - but that post was comparing it to Tinder. I'd say implicit in his post was that one of the main benefits a pub has over Tinder is that you can have a fun time socialising, drinking etc and then if you happen to pick up as well then the night is even better. IMO if you're going out to a pub with the sole intention of picking up you've already lost the battle.

On the whole I agree.

Yep - nothing reeks like desperation.
