EA Games Label president Frank Gibeau said during an E3 meeting this morning that the firm plans to alternate Battlefield and Medal of Honor releases on an annual basis, and will release Respawn’s project when it sees an “opportunistic” window for what he called a “sci-fi shooter”.

It has along been the rumor that Respawn’s title for EA Partners was a sci-fi shooter, and Gibeau’s comment pretty much confirms it.

Repsawn recently hired Star War artist Iain McCaig. who has created many sci-fi characters in the past.

Remember the crappy sitefront Respawn Entertainment had with just the email to apply for jobs within the new studio? It’s no more.

The upstart developer has opened up a brand new website after a year-and-a-half of basically nothing.

Its thrown a big tease in opening the site, however, for its new EA Partners-published game: a blurry image of what appears to be art can be found here. Or you can get it below.

Here’s something we missed in the launch of the new Respawn Entertainment website: a total of 40 former Infinity Ward staffers.

Gamefront produced the tally while scoping the website’s company page.

That’s three quarters of the 53 employees listed so far. The site doesn’t make any bones about it, happily referencing the chops of Call of Duty creators Jason West and Vince Zampella.

Respawn also employs six former Sony Santa Monica staffers, which is not entirely surprising as all three studios are based in Los Angeles.

It’s not clear how many staff Infinity Ward had before it began bleeding off to Respawn, although a credits roll created by PC gamer over a year ago saw many significant, senior roles ending over the affair.

Respawn Entertainment has confirmed it will be in attendance at E3 2013, presumably to show off its first game.

“I’ve gotten a ‘few’ questions about E3 Expo plans this year. Yes, we will finally be at E3,” Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella said on Twitter.
“I have no intention of showing up empty handed. I can’t say anything else right now,” he added.
Respawn was founded by Zampella and long-time colleague Jason West after the two left Infinity Ward, the Activision-owned Call of Duty developer they founded and builty up.
Respawn has a publishing contract with EA, and has attracted a significant number of former Infinity Ward staffers.

Jason West has left Respawn, apparently for family reasons.

Co-founder Jason West has left Respawn Entertainment. Originally reported by Kotaku (and since confirmed by IGN sources), West reportedly departed the studio due to family issues and has been gone since last year.

West’s departure is not expected to impact development of Respawn’s first project, which co-founder Vince Zampella teased last week for a reveal at this year’s E3.

West and Zampella originally co-founded Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward before departing and forming Respawn in 2010. The pair settled their lawsuit with Activision over Modern Warfare royalties last year.

May need to change the "multiplatform" tags....

The long-awaited first game from Respawn Entertainment — the studio helmed by the creators of Call of Duty — will be exclusive to the next-gen Xbox, according to two unrelated sources familiar with the game. One of our sources indicates that there will also be an Xbox 360 version, but no versions for rival PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.

I wouldn't be overly surprised. I did mention that after the omission of EA at the PS4 announcement, that perhaps MS had decided to side with EA this time around and go for Respawn's game.

Whatever it is, I don't expect it to be 100% exclusive, 3rd party excluvies just don't happen in gaming these days.

Some form of timed exclusivity wouldn't surprise me.

Will be good to finally see what this game is about though!

Me, before hearing rumour of exclusive to MS - Cant wait for Respawns game
After hearing rumour - Bungies Destiny will destroy your pathetic futuristic shooter Respawn

:D

In all seriousness though with EA publishing, it wont stay exclusive if its a big hit, EA wants that money, especially if the PS4 is a massive success. MS hoping people will ignore its lack of 1st party talent by buying 3rd party exclusives this gen? this wont end well for them.
