Greg Davis has tweeted that Banfield is out for 6 weeks with a leg fracture.

Career. Crossroads.

I know it's super early to call, but apart from a nice turn of pace/harassment,
he's got bugger all. Not a McRae replacement from
what ive seen so far.

Good Luck with the recovery though!

The problem for Toddy is that this gives others a chance to usurp his role in the side and if his reserves form isn't up to it he may struggle to get back into the seniors. Although Vossy seems to love him so it wouldn't surprise me to see him slot straight back into the side.

It could be that in the process of coming back through the ressies he is placed into different roles as a development strategy, and he could rediscover football in another part of the ground. Imagine somebody that quick in the back pocket.

Of course, he could also continue sliding and fall away from league football forever.

Maybe this is why his form has been down a little. I do hope his recovery is good, when he is on he is very good.

Best of luck Todd.

Actually discussed the probability of Banfield's demotion to the 2's a few days ago with someone whose judgement is mostly spot on.

Really think he would struggle at this level. Noone can argue he lacked for chances

The optimist in me hopes this is a good thing. He'll have six weeks to refresh mentally, not having to worry about his form. When he returns he might regain enjoyment of the game, and get a spring back in his step.

Sounds good ,hope it happens, because I believe he has a lot to give.

Hope when he's back his hands have improved. Poor guy runs to all the right spots and pressures the oppositions defenders every week but just can't get the ball to stick on the first grab. Really is the hardest position on the ground to have a regular impact in.

Not a question of doubting his native ability. It's his skills that let him down and have done since his elevation, unfortunately without any sign that they're about to improve.

Oh, and 5 goals for the season to date don't exactly help.

If he could develop into another McCrea who as we know had great defensive ability and could kick goals the that's exactly what we want.

I don't get the McRae comparisons either. They play a similar position but are completely different players in completely different era's. Not saying there isn't plenty of work to be done for TB but he is the one person on our list who gives us genuine pressure.

Number one in the AFL for pressure acts proves that.

The beard needs to go, Todd.

Hmm...McRae.. 195 games..Av.1.2 goals per game..Av.1.9 tackles per game.
..........Banfield..48 games...Av.1.2 goals per game..Av.3.7 tackles per game.

Seems to me Banfield is travelling OK by comparision at this stage of his career...players are not machines and do have such things as form variation and injuries etc. to contend with as they strive for consistent performance.

I have high hopes that Banfield will improve considerably on what he has shown so far.

Naitanui is the 201cm, 101kg dreadlocked West Coast ruckman, born of Fijian parents, who looks like he jumps with a pogo stick.

Banfield is the 182cm, 78kg red-headed Brisbane Lions terrier who scorches around the forward line like the Road Runner.

When the pair line up against each other at Patersons Stadium on Sunday, it will be their fourth on-field meeting since being drafted in 2008.

But their relationship goes far beyond on-field encounters.Banfield and Naitanui grew up together, raced each other at primary school athletics carnivals, walked to Perth's Governor Stirling Senior High School together and played at Swan Districts together

Banfield is in some horrendous form. I wouldn't rule out him being delisted at the end of the year.

He is giving us nothing.

Must go back to the Ressies for the rest of this season ....and let's see how he applies himself to the task of somehow reinventing himself.

Have to agree that on current disclosed form he is a candidate for the chop.

I think we would trade him because I think other clubs would see the potential.. Hope he gets his stuff together though.

The fact that he keeps getting games would indicate that the coaching staff don't think he's a chance for delisting.
