Umpiring Round 23 Essendon vs Port Adelaide

Wasnt so much the frees they got which cost us but the replica frees not getting paid the other way.

Most biased umpiring ive seen...probably ever.

First time this year Umpiring has definitely favoured us.

Port were seriously unlucky with the umps and probably lost them the game. But from an Essendon point of view.....

It's about ****** time we had a good run with the umpires.

Yeah, it was a joke really, the most obvious one was when Lovett-Murray put a saddle on Ebert and rode him into the ground, yet the ump called play on.

Completely incompetent that call especially when an Essendon player got awarded a free kick at the other end moments later for an 'in the back' discretion that was marginal at best.

How the officiating umpire thought that Ebert was not given the 'Mardi Gras' treatment is just mindblowing.

Watch the Essendon fans try and spin it that they were favouring Port.

Yeah?? Idiot

That was the worst umpiring I have ever seen in a game, Essendon didn't deserve that win. The only Bombers that can hold their heads high are Hurley and Colyer.
Butcher looks fantastic and what a game by Shulz!

Didn't cost Port the game imo but there was some home town decisions today.

umpires got us over the line.
Some terrible decisions in our favour and missed some blatant ones for port.

Port can count themselves unlucky, some horrible decisions against them.

Made up for the free he should have got for an armslap against Trengove when he was fully outstrecthed on a lead.

That is a completely illogical approach to umpiring.

You cannot 'even up' if you make a mistake, you have to keep calling them as they come up, ie. award the first one you see.

Two wrongs don't make a right.

What the hell are you Essendon supporters on about?
You get an absolute armchair ride with the umps every single week you play in Melbourne, the only times you get badly screwed are against Sydney up there. Swings and roundabouts for other insterstate games.

It's why I believe that the AFL could actually determine the results of matches (to suit their plans), by having such woeful umpiring it clouds the belief that the match was fixed.

I haven't seen the game yet, but from it sounds like, it's just exactly the same thing that happened last week when we played West Coast over in Perth.

The umpires need to stop letting the crowds umpire the game.

If they can't umpire the game without being influenced by the crowd, then they should not be umpiring professional sport.

Last week was an absolute disgrace. Sounds like Port copped it this week just as badly.

Not good enough.

Gieschen and the rules committee need to take responsibility and either fix it, or get out and let somebody competent take over.

Enough's enough.

You miss the Essendon - West Coast game at Etihad where Nic Nat invented a new handball?

You must have missed the Carlton draw where we had a few dodgy calls go against us in the last few mins?

Missed the North game where the umps got em over the line?

You should watch us more often. A lot more entertaining than most sides. :thumbsu:

It is so easy to blame the umpiring in a match if you have lost but christ they were bad, it was almost like the umpires had bets on the match.

Umpires seem to love favouring the home side. We saw the same thing last week against West Coast, but it didn't impact the match as much because the margin was bigger. But there's no doubt, particularly with the holding the ball decisions, umpires hear the crowd roar and get pressured into it.

Really?

Didn't seem to be the case with all the missed holding the ball decisions against you lot in our f50 last week.

Essendon supporters get gifted a match and still can't help but whinge.

It's what happens when you have two very inexperienced umpires like Hay and Jennings umpiring the same game.

Hay - 41 games
Jennings - 24 games

The AFL thought this would be a thumping so the umpires wouldn't matter.

Look at how they loaded up for the North Saints game with Rosebury Chamberlain and Meredith.

It is an indictment on the amateurs that they are so influenced by the hometown noise.

I am rather annoyed, the most over-officiated game in the round and it is on pay TV. Very annoying. Might be time to get pay TV. I am sure that the umpires payed each free fairly and on it's merits.
