WAFL Video Archive
After watching the archive of available SANFL games continue to grow on the brilliant SA Football Video Archive, a few of us have decided that we really should have something similar for WA. So here it is. Have a look at the site and dig out your old VHS video tapes. If you are looking for footage of a particular match, let us know about it.

The aims of the archive are:

1. To collect footage of WAFL, State of Origin and State matches, along with highlights and news material. There will be a particular emphasis on the golden years of WA football (pre-AFL).

2. To convert footage not already available on DVD into DVD format. (If you have footage on VHS or BETA we will do the transfer free).

3. To facilitate the trading of footage.

If you have any footage of WAFL matches, we are keen to hear from you. In exchange for your rare WAFL footage, you can choose some footage from our already growing archive of WAFL matches and highlights packages.

Well done guys on getting the WAFL video archive up and running.

if i had the time, i would get involved in helping set up a VFL archive, however, i work 12 hours per day as it is, and would struggle to find the time.

I do hope that a group of people however do get involved in helping set this up for the VFL, we cannot let the S.A and W.A guys make us look bad!

Watched my first lot of footage courtesy of the Archive on the weekend.

Three lots of Cardies highlights from 1982 (games v South Freo, East Freo and Subi).

So many things to bring up:

1) Can't believe the change in West Perth from 81 to 82. I haven't seen any 81 games, but from everything I've read they were a rabble, especially in the second half of the season.

2) Love the hair styles!

3) I could sit and watch highlights of Stephen Michael play all day.

4) Chris Stasinowsky - What's the deal with him? I know he switched to South Fremantle, and then ended up at Perth, but was he a bit of a hothead or something? Look as though he was a skill level above most on the ground.

5) The WP v EF game? I take it this was the infamous game at Leederville that's spoken about? That Ben Jager elbow to David Rankin's head was pretty disgraceful. It was probably in retaliation to whatever broke Brian Adamson's jaw, but still not excusable. Did he get weeks for it?

6) Ken Judge - Odd seeing him run around in a sleeveless jumper! Great skills though.

7) Kevin Taylor - I'm completely intrigued by this guy. Not sure whether it's the red hair (I'm a fellow bloodnut), the mo' or that amazing left foot of his, but his career fascinates me. That goal he kicks in the dying minutes of the game is great.

8) Helmets. Showed my wife the helmet that David Court was sporting back then and she cracked up. Great stuff.

Also - quality of the footage was great. Awesome work by eagles78!

1. yes in the last game of '81 South kicked 40.18 to 12.6, the following year IIRC WP kicked 30 goals to Souths 11, a 47 goal turnaround in the off season.

3. Could also watch the great man play all day, a sensation.

4. Poor old Stazza was a troubled soul. I remember hearing of his suicide when I was living in Adelaide. It was on the news in Adelaide because i think he was playing for South Adelaide at the time, very sad. On his day he was brilliant, i remember a game against Subi when he kicked 11 or 12 goals playing for SF.

7. I was at EF Oval the day Taylor took one of the greatest marks ever seen in WAFL footy, over a big pack standing on the shoulders of Simon Outhwaite.

8. You still cant beat the helmets worn by Phil Narkle and Basil Campbell.

Was rummaging through my vinyl collection last night and came across a 6WF sports highlights 33 1/3, one of the highlights on there was the final moments from the 1977 State match between WA and SA in Adelaide.

Had a listen last night and it's pretty brief, only really a minute or so of audio.

Shall I rip it and send it through?

There have been hundreds of additions to the archive (www.waflvideoarchive.webs.com) since the last post in this forum and we now have some classic WAFL games available for trade. If any of you have tapes of old games stored away, please get in touch. We are saving this vision for posterity before the tapes deteriorate to such an extent as to make them unwatchable. In return, you get vision from our archive.
