Carlton secures two giant recruits

Carlton has secured exciting young players Kristian Jaksch and Mark Whiley after finalising a trade with Greater Western Sydney.

The Blues have traded draft pick No. 7, in exchange for Jaksch, Whiley and draft pick No. 19.

Jaksch was recruited to GWS from the Oakleigh Chargers with a first round draft pick (No. 12 overall) in the 2012 National Draft. The tall swingman made his debut for the Giants in Round 22, 2013 and kicked a goal with his first ever kick at AFL level. The 20-year-old as since played seven AFL games.

Whiley was recruited to GWS ahead of the 2010 National Draft as one of the club’s NSW zone selections. He made his AFL debut in Round 12, 2012 and has since played 12 AFL games. The 21-year-old is a promising midfielder who won the Giants’ NEAFL Player of the Year in 2013.

GM – Football Operations Andrew McKay says the deal has been a major focus of Carlton’s trade negotiations.
