After much rumour, the club have officially announced that Adrian Lam will be be Interim Head Coach next season with Shaun Edwards taking over from 2020 when his commitment to Wales RU ends.

This is great news which will delight Wigan fans, featuring two of the club's favourite sons. And beyond Wigan, the return of a high-profile nationally-known figure like Edwards to the sport is bound to be a benefit.

It's been a lot of water under the bridge since then at Wigan, but with the Edwards deal long since falling through, and Lam installed as coach, it is clear to virtually all Wigan fans that he has to go. He just doesn't seem to have a clue what he's doing, and it's impossible to imagine that a better coach wouldn't get more out of the current squad, injuries notwithstanding. We have capitulated tonight to a Hull KR side, who, although much improved this season, and might overtake us in the table after this result, I haven't checked, nevertheless finished bottom last year. That is not good enough, and the rugby we are playing is terrible.

He's going at the end of the season, official, and not before time. A low-key replacement from inside the club is expected (with little enthusiasm by many), but we shall see. At least two consecutive nillings of top 6 opposition has put a halt to our slump on the pitch. We would still need to improve enormously to have realistic chance of getting to Old Trafford.
