Honestly....

I'd rather take Papley, Martin and Betts, who want to come and/or nominated than torpedo them for ANY of those elite mids. Serious.

We would have absolutely no chance of getting targets next year and probably the year after if we did. One elite mid won't get us to finals in 2020 or 2021.

We've only just started getting players wanting to come. Let's keep it that way.

This is how I feel. In Papley and Martin we get a couple of best 22 players that strengthen and improve us. Betts, whilst past his best, is also a best 22 inclusion and will add some excitement to the the group I reckon, I think he brings some intangibles that a few are ignoring (even if it is only for one year). Then we have the natural progression of a young list, we don't need to spend all our tickets this year, another year along and we will have a better idea of where the youth is at and what is needed for the list.

Sydney need to replace Franklin and like Franklin will not be afraid to put the coin and long contract on the table to get it done. I reckon Essendon overspent on Shiel, Stringer and co and Daniher won't get nearly as much at Bombers as he would at Sydney. They haven't planned for him properly and probably low balling him because of injury. I've probably not seen a more agile player of that height ever and once his body is right he will be huge. Pick 5 and 9 with a late first rounder coming back is what I expect.

I'm pretty confident SOS will get the job done without too much heartache and I don't feel we will have to dig into our 2020 draft picks too badly to get the job done (though I feel as though our 2020 second may be needed). There is a lot of posturing at this time of year by all teams but I feel in a fortnight's time we will all be happy with the outcome.

I think last time a draft was supposedly weak pick 5 was Adam Cerra (with Stephenson available) and pick 9 was Aaron Naughton.

There is always quality at the top end of the draft. This year is no exception, I wouldn't be giving up multiple top picks for a guy who struggles to get on the park. I still think there's a reason Essendon are willing to get rid of someone that talented.

Some pretty strong language where he's quite strong in painting Carlton as the party in the wrong, like we were the ones that backed out last minute.

TCP said it was because Ellis asked for more money once we missed out on Cogs. Another previous rumour in this thread that we lowered our offer to Ellis to try to get Cogs. Timing wise it also seems possible that when Teague was made official and given more control, he made it clear he's not interested in Ellis.

Not sure we'll ever really know for sure.

Lol in no way is an injury ravaged Danniher worth picks 5 & 9.

A second rounder would have to go back to the Swans at a minimum. Even then, i would have though pick 5 alone would be enough, or 5 + steak knives.
