2022 fixture.

Imagine having the teams that were 10th and 11th on the ladder open the season, while the one that played in a prelim gets slotted to a sunday afternoon...

The lights are going up at Ikon (I live nearby). All the better to see our prey.😍

Its so strange we have never hosted them.
Is it because of the capacity?

Good point. Ikon has more capacity, and is being set up as the premier AFLW venue in Melbourne. In addition to the new lights, there’s other building work going on. It will be a ‘boutique’ AFLW stadium.

Have we never played Carlton in an AFLW game at Vic Park?

All Carlton v Collingwood games in AFLW have been at Ikon Park for some reason. Surely we could host them a Vic Park at least once. If it’s a sell out, it’s a sell out.

Agree. We’ll smash them in January anyway, but it would be so much more enjoyable to spank them in Abbotsford.

P.S. I’m very confident about our girls in 2022.

Yeah never.
Its kind odd.

" This change is due to redevelopment work at Ikon Park, with a lack of broadcast-quality lights, meaning the Blues will only play day games at the historic Princes Park venue in 2022. "
If it wasn't for this, I imagine we would have opened the season.

Re the bolded, three very big lights have already gone up, with a fourth on the way. Maybe they won’t be ready? It’s just over a month away.

Fremantle's first trip to Victoria Park if I'm not mistaken.

Our men's team has a 100% win record against Fremantle. Hopefully them women can continue it!
Yeah, they were meant to play us here last season I think, but with covid it got changed.

Spewin' we can't get back at Brissy for last year at Vic Park.

In other news ... Vic Park is looking and feeling really good at the moment. Goal squares and the middle are roped off for repair but not a biggy, they'll be cherry ripe soon enough. Had a kick yesterday and it's best it's been for quite some time.

The benches are still being totally replaced. Not sure if this is part of the planned maintence fix up they have done to all the seats and club rooms over the last 2 years or there's extra thought put in for covid spacing on the benches (or whatever) because it certainly doesn't seem to be a "unscrew and bang something down" type deal.

Hoping it’s used for all the VFL games too.

So 6 matches in Melbourne and 1 in Geelong on the week off for the men prior to their Round 1.

It will be interesting to see whether it is possible to attend all 7 games even with a quarter or 2 missed due to travelling time.
