Carlton had picks 41 and 54 available for Chesser by your logic West Coast would have accepted pick 54 for Chesser, but we didn't, we got 41...so no if roles were reversed we wouldn't have just accepted pick 53.And so many blindly defend everything the club does as though being pushovers at trade week every year and winning 11 games in 4 years and having a list that isn't very good couldn't possibly be related in any way shape or form.
None of the trades we've done in the last 5, 6, 7 years - in isolation - are going to set the club back years as hack journos put out for clicks, but the cumulative effect is there for all to see. That admin are feeble and timid and have no concept of leverage, bargaining, negotiation etc. It's harming the club's chances of getting out of the hole we're in.
WC had 34, 38, 41, 53. Does anyone seriously believe if roles were reversed we wouldn't have just accepted pick 53?
Fair enough. Also I just saw he had a good game v Eagles. On average Pick 38 plays 50 odd games according to draft guru. https://www.draftguru.com.au/picks
Some picks, such as 40, ave 93 games, are artificially inflated due to the old FS picks. ( 40 has Ablett Jnr, Josh Kennedy and Jobe Watson for example. So not a lot to give up based on that.
Young has played 7 solid games since coming back from his ACL and performed well according to stats. https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/T/Tylar_Young.html#20250
Will Ashcroft did his ACL in his first season. Also with McQualter having formally coached Young he knows him.
And West Coast being so bad for 5 years I think the trade is worth the risk for sure.

To be fair we haven't had many wins of any kind recentlyEagles fans continue to be obsessed about winning every deal

The blight we're in now isn't caused by Clarke who came in a year or so ago, it's the prior administration who chased another flag, failed, didn't capitalise on moving on players and then got stung by those players falling off a cliff suddenly and several years of failed drafts / trades. Some self-inflicted, some just bad luck.
I believe the last 2 years have been our best drafts for near on a decade and can see the team that is being built is one that will challenge in years to come.
Whether we got there using picks 38 or 41 or 22 or 23 will be irrelevant.
Let’s not pretend half the posters in the thread for Young on the Tiger’s own board were expecting him to go for peanuts. I was expecting him to go for 41, so I’m not wetting the bed about him going for 38 like some other WC posters.Weagles fans way off the mark yet again. What a shock.
38 is fine all round.

Fixed it for youEagles fans continue to be obsessed about winning literally any deal ever just once

Player in question is irrelevant to the point you were making that West Coast would fold and accept a later pick if available.Chesser is a 22 year old former first round pick that just started to come good, not a 27 year old that has played 35 games.
This year we've traded for Starcevich and Young, and traded out Ryan and Chesser. And obviously Allen left as a free agent which is a separate mechanism. Is pick 38 for Young noteworthy? Not really. But WB desperately need a key defender and have picks 33 and 37. I don't see them trying to trump our offer.
I would think getting a key position backman, who has a solid all round game, will slip into your best 22 immediately, and is something WC are in dire need of, for pick 38, which could otherwise be a pick that might take years to come on especially it you draft a tall, if athey come on at all, is a win.To be fair we haven't had many wins of any kind recently
Totally agree, I'm very happy to have a position of great need filled with a pick we likely wouldn't have even used in the open draft. Free hit.I would think getting a key position backman, who has a solid all round game, will slip into your best 22 immediately, and is something WC are in dire need of, for pick 38, which could otherwise be a pick that might take years to come on especially it you draft a tall, if athey come on at all, is a win.
People are obsessed with draft numbers, what you might get. Pick 38 is a fair trade.

This is the biggest myth going around. We are in this problem because of the drafting and development between 2015-22. Not because we didnt dump shuey natanui mcgovern ectCarlton had picks 41 and 54 available for Chesser by your logic West Coast would have accepted pick 54 for Chesser, but we didn't, we got 41...so no if roles were reversed we wouldn't have just accepted pick 53.

May not move much. Academies push it back. Trash picks absorbed (some of which will be after 38).How far do we are 38 coming in? Early 30s potentially?
Good question... will depend on how the Gold Coast/Melbourne situation resolves (and other factors). How far do we are 38 coming in? Early 30s potentially?
I hope clubs bid earlier and more often for FS and academy draftees this draft. If they don’t bid then they shouldn’t whinge about the FS and academy picks.Good question... will depend on how the Gold Coast/Melbourne situation resolves (and other factors).
If 7/8 are traded for Trac/24/28 - then you'll probably) see current picks 15, 18, 24, 28, 29 and 36 wiped away by bids for Patterson and Uwland. Then it's probable Brisbane will need to use 17 and 23 to match a bid on Annable.
So that would move pick 38 five spots up the order to 33.
At this point it's really hard to say what will happen with Dean. Still have the Curnow situation unfolding and Carlton have a range of options with pick 10 already. At this point they could pretty happily eat a bid at 7 or 8 with 10 and then maybe slide down a small amount at pick 22. Which wouldn't affect pick 38.
Then who knows with players like King, Sweid, Ison, Addinsale etc. They likely go somewhere in the 20s and early 30s, but are probably matched with later picks in a way that won't benefit pick 38.
