If we were picking on.football ability (which we should as we are a football club) White is no where near the footballer Elijah is and will be. White is an average, low possession forward who cannot kick more than 35 metres. He's not that fast, creative or skilled.

It's actually a joke that these are the options we are deciding between and there is actual debate. Just sign Elijah and get on with it. Just a rookie spot

Hansen said he finished 2nd in time trial which shows he is doing the work. Not sure how much you read into this?

But I look at our list and think do we really need his type? I just can't see it. I still think we have too many "handy" small medium forwards. It's almost like we have numbers to compensate for lack of X factor

Looking at our list purely on needs I reckon we need KPP's, maybe another Ruck and/or focus on leg speed and ball use.

As for GW I was told same thing that C4[2]Yo`DooR posted so I confirmed it. He also said "I know as fact that GW was keen for Elijah to leave" Where did anyone say he was "overruled"? GW let LM make the decision. Not unusual

Let me be very CLEAR and what I have said

1. If what I am told is correct EH is very lucky to be there
2. He has done things that personally I would not forgive but that's me (MY OPINION)
3. He has burnt people at club. I know that as FACT
4. He has been offered train on spot but I don't know anyone that is aware of reasoning and criteria for him

NO ONE here has said he won't or can't get a spot. People are commenting like they have.

MY OPINION (and I don't speak for club) is that he is coming from a long way back and is a long shot for spot. This because of issues and also List needs

If he does get a spot that is clubs decision and I will support it. Simple and to be honest it's a mountain out of a mole hill

1. He does need to earn back trust of group. Most know that
2. The CEO was keen to move him on but let LM make final decision. Not unusal
3. Again, NO ONE has said we are not considering him for list spot. Comments have been "unlikely at this stage" or "not guaranteed" or "as it stands today" or "is coming from a long way back". People (including me) have said they think it's unlikely. A personal opinion is not what club will do

Why the angst? Quit the attacks, the off season too often becomes a battlefield in here.

Clearly Hollands has his backers and his detractors within the management and playing group. Walsh is clearly a supporter and is an influential player who just happens to be in a contract window. List Management clearly wants talent on the list and the behavioural component comes under the per view of senior management, footy management and player leaders input.

I do not pretend to be completely over the issues and there are clearly many factors at play. I find the fact that he had no suitors among the other clubs to be a bit of a tell tale that the issues are significant.

Won’t happen, but we need to wait and see how this plays out rather than banging heads over it for months.

I think we are all smart enough to realise a second year 40 games player with just 1 full pre-season under their belt is a lot different to a 5th year 40 game player who has had time to develop an AFL body.

The numbers aren't impressive enough for him to be labelled a game changer and he has been in the system long enough to be wary of his ability to have a break out year

"and we're not even considering him for a list spot?" i think this is where people are getting things conflated - I think it would be fair to say at this point EH is starting from a long way back - he could create a case for himself that is too good to pass up in the next 3 months, someone else could get injured and that could open a door - as I said elsewhere - it isn't like he has 0% chance just that right now he is behind others

Complex is probably not the right word, but in the absence of knowing the reason for his delisting and the purpose for allowing him to train is leading to some unusual theories and opinions.

Club terminates a player’s contract 1 year early, why - he’s done something bad enough to warrant it. Club could’ve just played him in the VFL until he learnt his lesson, but no he was delisted, must’ve been pretty serious (if someone really knows the nature of discretion, please PM me).

Club then says you can train with the team along with other unlisted players White & Walley.

So the misdemeanour was serious enough to get his contract terminated but not enough to not be welcome back around the team.

Theories/opinions about his playing future:

1. He’s in the running for a list spot, along with W & W.

2. He’s not going to be at the club next year.

3. It could be the first step of a longer term rehabilitation plan. Next step if he passes this stage is to play VFL…

4. Club and player think it’s better he is engaged with ex team mates and activities for his own recovery and well being, football is secondary at this point. Fits in with our traditional mantra "Mens sana in corpore sano," A healthy mind in a healthy body.

If the club thought he was distrusted amongst the playing group they would not even want him part of the VFL program, not a lot making sense to suggest the club has made up their mind and he is no chance of earning the spot back.

Paying him out and starting on a 1 year deal, base salary with conditional requirements written in that any breach would result in termination is a smart move by the club. Puts the player on notice and removes any wriggle room should Elijah go off the rails again.

I suspect this had probably more to do with our limited list spots available, same with Jaxon Binns. Paying out both Elijah and Binns allowed us to take our required 3 in the draft and keep one up our sleeve.

Lol. What a take. Elijah right now is the perfect example of what it looks like when natural talent can’t cover for all the other critically important things that go into a footy career (or any career, for that matter).

White’s game against Hawthorn late in the season alone was enough to get me genuinely interested in what he can become.

What’s actually a joke is how many people are willing to gloss over the merits of EH being at the club purely because of his talent. How the **** are you supposed to build a strong culture when you give blokes a free pass on the fundamentals just because they’re talented?

I’m happy to see EH get another go if he earns it but why does his pathway back have to be through the AFL? So what if he had a year in the twos so both he and the club can see if there’s something to work with moving forward.

Talent means nothing if it’s not underpinned by the important stuff.

Yeah don’t fully disagree, but I do think the modern game allows for us to have more smalls.

Rhat being said, have liked if we’d held our pick in the second round of the draft this year for Schubert but maybe that would have prompted clubs to put bids on Ison earlier.

Don’t want to think about what happens if Harry goes down in 2026 haha.
