Would get eaten alive by quality spinners in the sub continent IMO. There's always a judgement call on whether a player's technique stands up at international level and sometimes that's made despite domestic performances (good and bad). -

We'll almost certainly see more than the 33 you listed and to me Sweid and Scerri would be the most likely. Take last year for example. We probably saw only 26/27 play more than five games but we saw far more than that at AFL level. -

Point is that I'm not sure JL is ultra-conservative with early season selections. When a player is super talented/ready he's generally pulled the trigger within the first few weeks. It'll be interesting this year with a stronger squad than what JL has typically had. From memory Reid benefited... -

Tbf outside of Serong, Young in 2020 who else apart from Reid has actually justified selection that early? He did start Sturt round one 2020 as well. He got Chapman in for Round 2 (??) And got Treacy and Dudley in far quicker than I expected. Erasmus, Amiss, Johnson etc needed more time... -

Serong probably doesn't emerge the way he has with Neale still at Freo but it was actually Brad Hill that got us the Serong pick. Got us a few good years from Aish and Acres too. -

Fantastic news. Was probably the one signature I thought was more urgent than the 2-3 most important OOC players for 2026. Now the focus can go into Switta, Wagner, Johnson etc. There was rumours Switta would be done before round one amd there's still some time until then. -

Yes - Absolutely agree. As a depth player he should be getting one year deals. And tbh whilst losing depth players isn't ideal, if our list management team (recruitment) and the coaching staff (development) can't replace one or two depth players each off season then someone else should be... -

If I was to bet on it Banfield will get another contract unless he falls outside the best 30-odd players on our list. A lot of fans on this board don't like but let's be honest there isnt too many (if any) teams across the league he's not in the best 30-odd for and he's best 23 for a few teams... -

Definitely think it's something to think about later in the year. Will we even be able to find a spot on our senior list for him? Not sure you let go of what could be a long term player or valuable depth to get him on the list. Of course if the club can find 5-6 players that aren't best 30-odd...
