Martin, good player. At 25 still a bit of a speculative tall. Wellingham, premiership player, can go the Swan role and get mega touches, or defensive mid, or kick goals. No trade. Not even in a blizzard.
If Wellers really does wish to get back to his Western roots, guess there is Zac Clarke or...
Nah, was scratching own head with raised elbow that Puopolo then carelessly ran into. These defensive forwards do the dumbest things at times in order to coral their man. However, don't think that Galbally would suggest a counter-charge of Puopolo with 'wilful staging'. Move on.
Nah, can't blame the defensive coach if the selection committee chooses to play 3 defensive talls (Brown, Reid, Tarrant) and then also 3 tallish 'cruisers' (Tooves, Max, Harry O). Then Shaw or Johnno play the small 7th defender, while the other plays on the wing. It's a set of jigsaw pieces that...
Outcoached.
All our mids were being defensive (Blair, Beams, Swan, Pendles all had equal game high 7 tackles each - as did Toovey). No-one in the mid was left to provide untagged offensive pressure. As unfashionable as it may be at CFC, we need a tagger to ensure we can control one of theirs...
No injuries; no changes.
If Jolls has corkie, might need to play Wood (if he's fit).
If Daisy's cork is best rested an extra week, jiggered if I know. We've hit injury bottom and are looking up. But not yet looking at Johnno, Kraks or Caffa. They are the shining lights at the end of the...
So that would make our VFL team something like this:
Williams, KPendles, Smith
Yags, Keeffe, Buckley
Seedsman, Clarke, Sinclair
Paine, Gault, Fasolo
Elliott, Witts, Mooney
Ceglar, Young, JThomas
Wood, Hartley, Cribbin, [Rounds? Ugle? VFL, VFL, VFL)
I'd like to see that.
The only bloke who can fix this is Ben Johnson. He got Swanny out with him years ago to run the neighbourhood; get miles in the legs; and look what happened - from fringe winger to fringe legend. Unfortunately Johnno was also at the same time the bete noire of Taz, Dids, Heath on other paths...
Well this week we had Jolly, Thomas, Wellers, Sidey, and the Big O back. The first and last slotted in without dramas and were good. The middle three will be better for the blowing out of the cobwebs. Sidey's 'get and give' game has gone to pieces, and now 'the give' is as likely to go to them...
Terrible kicking up front; and amazingly poor turnovers from Shaw and Sidey (don't yet have stats to hand, but by eye it seemed incredibly poor disposal efficiency).
Good results:
1. No injuries (possibly Mooney? possibly also why a bit subdued on team intensity?)
2. Defence: Tooves, Reid, Maxwell gaining form. Browne, needs more form for finals. Heath, Goldy and Taz must be three of our best defenders to ever play in front of the ball. Buckley and...
Of the three LTI's I'd take Johnson for that renewed run off half-back, and he may still have some leg fitness remaining. Not sure we should risk Caff or Krak. Then Didak as a FP or supersub, in a couple of weeks.
Vale, could-of-been-a-legend. Trav, 165 games; 259 goals; a club best and fairest; leading contested marks in the AFL. Good bloke.
Simply, on restricted free agency, they only have to choose a suitor whose love-tunes we can't match, and it's goodnight sweet prince. That's okay, in tougher...
In:
Didak for Thomas (inj/rest)
Sinclair for Seedsman
Ceglar for NBrown
Paine for....Cloke
Rounds for Young [with SBuckley and Clarke demoted, and Wellers susp, might be good to get a quick run-with player back into AFL form in case needed in finals].
Wood for Jolly (well-needed rest for the...
