Agreed, but just the premise of it sickens me...

Position of need or not, Wellngham can net you a lot more than Stefan Martin, surely.

Martin is actually a quality player especially when compared to Leroy Brown and Dawes as a 2nd ruck.
As has already been said he has had injuries this year and then fell out of favour with Neeld for what ever reason, maybe something as simple as they want to develop a younger ruck.
Melbourne aren't in the business to win games only better draft picks.![]()

Same can be said for us why would Melbourne help us get closer to a flag?
He could just walk into the draft should they refuse a trade.
He is Under Contract for Next Season
To the guy that was saying Martin couldn't a game for us, that is blatantly wrong. Martin was always straight in when fit, but unfortunately like a lot of our list was injured a lot this season.
I'd prefer to keep him, but a trade for Wellingham seems tempting. Then we could pick up Grundy in the draft.
We have picks 3,4 and 13 if Viney goes in the second round, and picks 4 and 13 if Viney goes first round thanks to Scully compo picks.Wouldn't your 1st Rounder be for Viney.
We need a Another Mature Ruckman because Jolly is wearing Down and Dawes as a 2nd Ruckman is Usless
Wellingham for Martin?
**** i'll even throw in a draft pick to make that happen.

Only GC or GWS bidding Pick 1 or Pick 2 can make us decide if we use Pick 3 on Viney.
Martin is an interesting player. Showed good signs in 2011 as a ruck who can go also go forward. Exceptionally athletic for his size. Can do something freaky in general play but can also then not capitalise on his hard work. Was limited this year due to injury.
In terms of Dees list management if they decide he is behind Jamar as Nm 1 Ruck and behind Mitch Clark as Key Forward who can relieve in the ruck (aka the Leigh Brown role) then Dees have to make a decision in terms of both list management and salary cap management. We might keep him and play as Forward along side Clark with Jamar as First Ruck.
Certainly won't be given away 'cheaply'. There'd be a few clubs interested because of his flexibilty. The Maggies would be one definitely given their problems trying to replace the Brown role.
Martin, good player. At 25 still a bit of a speculative tall. Wellingham, premiership player, can go the Swan role and get mega touches, or defensive mid, or kick goals. No trade. Not even in a blizzard.
If Wellers really does wish to get back to his Western roots, guess there is Zac Clarke or the Q-Stick from over there. Yet wasn't the last we heard that Wellers wanted to re-sign here and that he was one of a couple of 'sacrificial lambs' left till the end of the interminable Cloke machinations?
Freo would want more then Wellingham for Clarke.
I see Seedsman being as good or even better then Wellingham
Get off the grass Dave. He may be, but that's just wacky talk. No-one will give over anything for someone who went very late in the draft and has potential.
Well if the Need is Big Enough and the People at the Club believe in the Player then Overs can be Paid,
You could say we over paid for Wood
