MEET ESSENDON LEGEND DUSTIN FLETCHER THIS SATURDAY AT THE TCA GROUND FOR THE SEASON DEFINING SFL CLASH BETWEEN HOBARTTIGERS & HUONVILLE LIONS.

Essendon & AFL Legend Dustin Fletcher will be in attendance at the TCA Ground this Saturday, 27 August between 1 and 5 pm. while Hobart do battle with Huonville for a place in the SFL finals

There will be a chance to get photos and meet Dustin Fletcher at the ground between 1-5pm.

Today's final round of the SFL Roster season saw Hobart leapfrog Brighton and Huonville Lions to jump into the five with a solid 35 point win at the TCA Ground.
The Tigers won the toss and kicked with a very strong wind to the Smith Stand end first up and blew the Lions off the park with a 5.7 to 0.0 opening quarter.
From then on the Tigers held Huonville in the second quarter and got out to a 49 point lead in the third before two successive goals from free kicks in front got Huonville back into to the contest.
Hobart were able to steady and finally win going away from the Lions at the finish, 12.15 (87) to 7.10 (52).
Hobart will take on New Norfolk at Boyer Oval in the Elimination Final.

At Abbotsfield Park, Claremont inflicted Lindisfarne's first defeat of the season by eight points, 11.5 (71) to 8.15 (63).
After some slightly indifferent form in recent weeks, the Two Blues have looked likely to lose one at some point and would probably rather it there than during the finals. Claremont remain a dangerous prospect if they get it right on the day, the Magpies have been going about their business quietly all season.
Claremont will host Cygnet at Abbotsfield Park on Saturday in the Qualifying Final.

The other match, a dead rubber, saw Dodges Ferry run out 15.16 (106) to 10.15 (75) winners over bottom placed Sorell at Dodges Ferry.

The first weekend of finals has been run and won and New Norfolk and Cygnet took the chockies in the Seniors.
At Boyer, a very disappointingly small crowd turned out to watch the Elimination Final, Hobart were running all over the Eagles in the first quarter but, once again, couldn't put them away and with a soccered goal dribbling through to the clubroom end as the siren sounded, the margin was just five points Hobart's way and Dylan Huxley for Hobart had come off the ground with dislocated ankle.
The Eagles won the game in the first 10-15 minutes of the second quarter and looked ready to absolutely blow the Tigers out of the water, ramming on the next 5.7 to nil with the wind and leading by 32 points, Hobart started to run again and kicked two beautiful goals to reduce the deficit to 20 at half time.
From then on New Norfolk were never troubled, Hobart just couldn't get into the game, Thompson took about 457,266,971 marks for New Norfolk and ended up with five sausages. The second half never reached any heights whatsoever and the final margin was 38 points, 12.14 (86) to 7.6 (48) New Norfolk's way in the end.
It was always going to be a tough ask for Hobart, having not won at the ground twice in a season since 1991, the Eagles finals experience won it for them.

At Abbotsfield Park, Cygnet, with twin towers Laycock and Halton piffing 15 through the major uprights between them, recorded a shock 32 point win over reigning premier Claremont in the Qualifying Final.
After an even opening quarter, the Port unloaded eight in the second stanza to take a strong lead into the long break.
Claremont hit back with seven of their own in the third to trail by only three points with a quarter to play but Cygnet smashed through another seven in the final quarter to run out 23.8 (146) to 17.12 (114) winners in an outstanding effort.
This week Claremont will host New Norfolk at Abbotsfield Park, a match the Magpies shpuld bounce back in and at Anzac Park, Lindisfarne will host Cygnet. That'll be a cracker of a contest.

Well todays SFL Semi Finals have concluded with wins to Lindisfarne and Claremont.

In the First Semi Final at Abbotsfield Park, a replay of the previous three Grand Finals saw Claremont take on New Norfolk.
After a tough first half in which Claremont went into the long break 10 point leaders, New Norfolk launched a counter attack and fired themselves to an 11 point three quarter time lead before the reigning premier exploded in the final stanza with 10.4 to 0.2 to run out convincing 51 point winners, 20.15 (135) to 12.12 (84) and booking a spot in next week's Preliminary Final at North Hobart.

In the Second Semi Final at Anzac Park, a clinker of a contest was expected between Lindisfarne (only one loss all season) and an in-form Cygnet fresh off a great win over Claremont the previous week.
Unfortunately it was a fizzer with the Two Blues demolishing The Port by 83 points.
Lindisfarne trailed by three points at the 16 minute mark of the second quarter (4.6 to 5.3) after a goal to Laycock from Cygnet but from that moment Lindisfarne ran amok and totally destroyed Cygnet registering a 20.21 (141) to 8.10 (58) victory.
Lindisfarne advance to the Grand Final in a fortnight whilst Cygnet will face Claremont in a rematch of the Qualifying Final, this time at North Hobart next Saturday.

Cygnet not good enough. Who's everyone's tip for Saturday? Personally I think claremont will go down to the Two Blues. Could be unusual if both Claremont and Glenorchy Magpies in neighbouring suburbs both get flags though.
Well done Claremont win all three premierships Colts Ressies and rhe Seniors. Thanks Duff TV

Well there's another SFL season over and done.
Lovely conditions at North Hobart Oval a contrast to the heavy rain the previous Sunday in the Preliminary Final.
A crowd of just over 4,000 saw Lindisfarne and Claremont do battle for flag honours.
The Two Blues were out to break a 27 year premiership drought while the Magpies, in their fourth grand final in a row were out to go back-to-back.
The first quarter was a fairly even affair with Claremont getting out to a ten point lead at the first change.
The second quarter saw Claremont start to open up the match and kick away to a 27 point lead as the old story of the Two Blues poor performances in big games started to ring true again.
Lindisfarne mounted a great charge in the third quarter to get back into the contest, at one stage getting to within nine points but with some poor finishing were unable to wrestle the lead back and went into the final change trailing by 12 points.
In a desperate final quarter with Claremont injury-hit and down to one man on the bench, Lindisfarne peppered away at goal but were very wasteful and made a heap of mistakes and virtually blew any chance to take the flag with poor kicking and costly turnovers.
Claremont holding to win by a narrow 8 points in a great game of football.
Claremont's Braden Barwick was Best-On-Ground, retiring full forward Sean Salter ended up on 90 goals for the season and a flag on his final day.
Lindisfarne were devastated to drop their fourth flag attempt in eight years, and fifth grand final loss in as many attempts since their last premiership in 1989.
In the reserves Claremont cane from behind to run out comfortable 30 point winners over Brighton, 9.10 (64) to 5.4 (34) to win back-to-back premierships and in the Under 18s Claremont thrashed Brighton by 58 points, 16.7 (103) to 6.9 (45) to take out back-to-back flags.
Claremont Football Club taking out the Seniors, Reserves and Under 18 premierships for the second year in a row.

Hobart announced Mark Beck as its senior coach for 2017-2018 this evening.
Steve Woods, senior coach from 2014-2016 was not reappointed as the club were looking for a more longterm arrangement as Woods wasn't supposedly looking to coach beyond 2017.
Reserves coach Tony Rosendale also pulled the pin on his coaching stint at the club this evening, no replacements named at this stage.
Tim Langdale took out the Tigers Best & Fairest with Beau Bennett taking the Macalburn Medal in the Reserves and Harry Fish taking the Aaron Hall Medal for the Colts.

Another strong rumour doing the rounds at present is that Cygnet have dumped coach Gavin Quirk just weeks after he got them into a Preliminary Final and their first finals series in 12 years. The Port have advertised for new coaches in the paper last week and word from numerous different sources says he's gone!
Strange if true!
Another strong rumour is current Lauderdale forward Michael Cassidy is headed to Lindisfarne next year to hook back up with the Willing brothers at the Two Blues, they were all good mates in their time in the TSL at Hobart.

No

I thought Lindisfarne was going to find a way to beat Claremont towards the end of the game, I was in the Ryde Street stand taking photos and you could feel the nerves in there. One lady kept asking dad how long was left, etc. My tip would have been Lindisfarne, with the hope Claremont would have won. Lindisfarne minus the game at Claremont have been far and away the best side.

Though they were very unsettled against Hobart, had the Tigers made the most of their shots on goal it might have been different but the pressure they put on the Two Blues was something I hadn't seen before that weekend. Then against Claremont they had the same problems but Claremont were able to convert, Lindisfarne's kicking even in the Grand Final left a lot to be desired.

Their disposal and the fact they were getting caught a lot was interesting, since they blew Claremont away both times before their last clash at Claremont, and the finals. I didn't hold much hope for Claremont after they were demolished by Cygnet, and were on the verge of going down to New Norfolk. It took a big last quarter to get them over the line.

It seemed Claremont learned their lesson against Cygnet in the wet at North Hobart, Daniel Fox wore Laycock like a glove for most of it, though none of the big men really had much impact during the game.

Claremont colts had no troubles after their extra time win over Southern Storm, they ran all over Brighton there. The reserves had a hard time there with the Robins, there were concerns over Brighton because of the 9 seniors players in there. I suppose this is why Claremont fans wanted Lindisfarne to beat Brighton the week earlier.

Recent senior coaching appointments in the SFL include former Sandy Bay star and coach of Kermandie, Hutchins, Hobart, Huonville Lions and Hobart City, Michael "Jock" McGregor taking over as senior coach at Sorell.
Nick Doyle has taken on the reigns at Huonville Lions and Ben Cato replaces Gavin Quirk in charge of Cygnet along with Mark Beck taking over the coaching job at the Hobart Tigers from Steve Woods.
Hobart with 60 on the track already under Mark Beck which would be the most they've had at this time of year for many years.
Scotty Quinn appointed as Reserves coach along with Will Perry, son of North Hobart champion Darryn Perry coaching the Under 18s. Pez senior to be the runner next season as well which will be good for these young blokes.
Heard today that Jayson Laycock has left Cygnet and joined New Norfolk for next season.

That'd be Lindisfarne, Hobart, DOSA, Cygnet and New Norfolk in the space of about six years for Quirk.
Lockley's a good get for Hobart, Josh Dykes has also come back to the club, McGee from South Launceston who did his achilles ten minutes into the first practice match last year is back training and looking fit with Hobart.
Any news on the others?

Good article about the formation of the Channel Football Club 50 years ago after the 67 bushfires made 4 clubs merge thought I post here as they won the first ever SFL in 1996,

It is sad as with so many other SFL clubs that they no longer exist at Senior Level...however a slight chance they may rise again?

They were a power in the 80's and 90 and had that one flag in the SFL, final seasons in the OSFA before going into recess last year.
