Just a reminder, not that I probably need to do it, but if anyone does get into discussing actual plot and the film itself...

You can't tell me what to do.

Actually you can, * face.

I enjoyed it, but did anyone get a fair few Harry Potter vibes?
Add a spoiler to your post maybe? But yes, the mirror and the Rey/Kylo connection was very HP

What I realised today after sneaking out of work and watching it was that the problem has been that I have wanted every Star Wars film since Empire to be awesome and become increasing excited prior to a new one being released only to be left with disappointment levels ranging from mild to severe. Today was no different. Loved the battle scenes but Ray doesn't do much for me as the protagonist and I can't understand why spirits were so high near the end of the movie after most of the rebels had been wiped out.

I guess the spirits were so high because the survivors survived when they easily shouldn't have

I quite enjoyed the film. It moved along at a decent pace but in reality I don’t think it actually got anywhere. We still don’t know who Snoke was in the greater scheme of things. I’m not sure if I believe the story of Rey’s parentage either. Phasma’s death(?) was pretty lame too.

It’s easy to pick out flaws though. The final scenes with Luke on Crait and Ahch-To were excellent. I also thought Rey and Luke’s scenes together were great. Poe and Leia had good scenes together too. The Snoke death scene was great and I liked the Praetorian Guards, definitely an improvement on the Royal Guard.

Holy mother of plot twists (Snoke dying). I mean it was kinda obvious once they did that scene but I wasn't expecting it until the next one. I kinda dislike what they're doing with whatever love thing they want going on. Po is awesome.

My rankings for the main saga films:

Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope
Revenge of the Sith
The Force Awakens
Return of the Jedi
Attack of the Clones
The Last Jedi
Phantom Menace

And believe me, I really tossed up whether to make The Last Jedi stone cold last

Revenge of the Sith that high? That should be burned forever.

At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I'm writing a review as we speak - my overwhelming thought is that even after wading through the average to terrible prequel trilogy, The Last Jedi is the first film in the series to have actually killed a little bit of my love for the franchise.

It is, in my opinion, a truly horrible Star Wars film.

Rae being the gay love child of Han and Luke was something I didn't expect

I quite like that one actually. Think it is a really good bridge between 2 and 4.

My ranking FWIW
Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope
Revenge of the Sith
Last Jedi
Return of the Jedi
Force Awakens
Attack of the Clones
Phantom Menace
Sand. I hate sand.

I liked it more than the first, easily the funniest Star Wars movie but still debating if that's a good or bad thing.

I've got no idea what will happen in the last one and I think that's a good thing but yeah this is a hard one to rate especially if you try and compare it to the first trilogy (nostalgia will always win out)

I think a lot of people will have issues with this one, but for me the reaction was overwhelmingly positive. Certainly not a retelling of Empire as TFA was of ep IV. It looks and sounds stunning, it flies by for a 2 and a half hour movie and Johnson has successfully steered us towards what I think everyone thought was always going to be the end game (a dark Kylo vs light Rey showdown) all while doing it his way and still being true to the brand.

My 2 biggest gripes are the treatment of Snoke and the entire Canto Bight plot arc. Snoke looks and sounds and is incredible, but because we didn't see him in TFA it was difficult for me to get around him and buy him as a threat. I sort of wavered when I saw that Serkis was saying things in the press like 'he's more powerful than Palpatine and Vader' but I just never bought him as the big bad of this trilogy to begin with, maybe it was just me?

The whole casino plot felt like a waste of time to me, In reality it's probably only 20 odd minutes of screen time, and it looked visually spectacular but didn't really get us anywhere. They could have written in Del Toro as one of the resistance members on that ship and I wouldn't have batted an eyelid. Perhaps there's plans to go back to Canto Bight in a future movie though, then it would make a little more sense.

Apart from those two points and Leia's 100 cigarette a day tone of voice everything else was pretty great.

I still reckon we'll find out that Rey's parents are someone we've met before, I reckon Kylo was screwing with Rey's head there.

Having seen it a second time, I am most firmly on the side of it being a work of absolute genius, and the first film to truly embody what Yoda espouses in ESB... arguably moreso than ESB itself. ESB is about hubris and disappointment. TLJ is a further development, about consequences and progress. It's the bravest blockbuster since Nolan stopped making them, if not braver. It's Unforgiven if Munny chose the way of peace.

People complaining about what happens to/with Luke don't get it. This film makes him the greatest Jedi ever.

I even liked Canto Bight moreso the second time around, and it's probably the most essential set up for IX - the grassroots appeal.
