We definitely might've gained a bit of size with more of a strength focus over the off season but comparing photos late in the season to now is a bit pointless though, the hours they spend in the gym over an off season and early pre season would be a lot more than they would during the season.

Things will probably change when the running ramps up too.

Some of these photos might be taken straight after a gym session too, where they have a bit of temporary muscle pump.

We could be reading a bit too much into it.

I just had another look at Power Pete's pics and as has already been said the transformation in many players from last season is remarkable, the muscle definition in the shoulders and upper arms is off the scale compared to previous seasons, which has to beg the question as to what was Chad Cornes doing, was he the only person at Alberton with a key to the gym?

Too many oppo players (particularly from Brisvegas and Geebung) have been breaking and/or standing up in the tackle to release the ball against us for way too long, but that should be much more difficult now with the improvement in lower body definition of numerous Power players.
The extra strength through the core that comes with that is another big plus for the Carr regime, which should make old mate REH and his `We need big bodied, big arsed warriors with a healthy dose of mongrel' very happy! :thumbsu:

After his article in the Sunday Mull last week, if Gra-Gra has seen these pics he'll be mulling over: "Stephen Dank Promised Me He Would Never Help That Mob"; or "It's Amazing What You Can Do With AI Nowadays" for this week's budgie cage liner.

Players shouldn't be losing all of their muscle mass across a season. Darcy looks like he's filling in for a div 6 team

Still looks pretty small like he always has been. Arms look a bit more jacked, but in one photo he has his arms down his side and the other in a running motion. I don't think the differences are huge.

All I can say is this is the best I've felt pre- season in a decade.

New faces in the football department, a no nonsense approach by our new head coach and the players starting to like AFL size players.

I'm looking forward to the 2026 season, just to see our competivenes and not just playing well when the coaches job is on the line like the previous decade.

Awesome pics. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation

Players ALWAYS look bigger this time of year for some reason. We remain optimistic, as always.
Its science. They come back carrying more fat after taking in more calories while doing weights in the off season, which makes them look bigger.

They then lean out as the pre-season wears on and the fat drops off. The aim is to keep as much of that muscle you built without losing too much of it through caloric defecit because of cardio training loads.

Its actually really hard to do and there is a big difference between good fitness teams and not...and good player offseason nutrition and program adherence.

I will say, if players are not big eaters they will never get the balance right between caloric surplus and defecit. This is why guys who cant down seven chickens in one sitting have to load up with super calorie dense shakes and things.

If you have ever hears the term "cardio kills gains", its sort of true in that cardio burns much more in terms of calories BUT it doesnt cause hypertrophy in muscles which is what leads to growth. I.e it burns fat well through high calorie burn, but it does not in return increase muscle mass like weights do. (Howerver, for weight loss specifically, both weight training and cardio are recommended. Reason is, muscle recovery burns calories while resting, and extra muscle mass also increases your metabolic rate which means just by existing, you burn more calories. Essentially one kg of muscle burns 2 to 3 times more calories a day than a kg of fat.) You also need to be in a calorie surplus (side note - a totally untrained male who suddenly starts weights will easily put on 2kg of muscle without a caloric surplus, but then it will plateau) to put on muscle, BUT calorie surplus also means you put on fat at the same time. You then 'cut' and lean out via caloric deficit. You lose some muscle in each cycle but the plan is to increase your overall muscle with each cycle you do this.

Impossible to put weight on during the season or pre-season unless you decrease training load (and lose conditioning) so all muscle building happens when injured or during rehab, and the off-season. Its a slow process. Takes years.

Clearly our stringbeans havent had the balance right and simply havent done the muscle work in the offseason. I bet you will find Marshall will look truly bigger after his big layoff because he hasnt been on the track so much and could spend more time doing weights with a calorie surplus.

Looked at last year's Preseason pics, and looks chalk & cheese to me! IMO, they have all been told to bulk up & hit the gym in their exit talks! below are a few taken in January ....Moss, Vis, Lorenz, and Evans ... just a few examples. Compare then to Pete's this year ... Huge difference. Def not optical illusion!

Players look bigger after more pre-seasons. can't believe it.

Ultimate proof that Chad Cornes, Dom Cassisi and Jordan Hinley wouldn't let them use the gym.
Todd is apparently ~10kgs heavier than he was 12 months ago.

Why is he only trying to put on so much more size after being in the system for 9 years.

Carr has said the lack of strength at contest is a main focus for the 26 season, so its good to see they're trying to bridge the gap between anaemic child and professional sports person.

I think you underestimate how hard it is to maintain size during an AFL season when you’re running a lot and focussing primarily on recovery after games.

It’s not surprising he can put on size when he has a year off playing.

Logan Evans looks to be continuing to put on some size, especially considering how skinny he was in his draft year.

He's got some broad shoulders that could fill out to really solid frame.

Love to see him force his way back into the best 22

Both things can be true.

Yes it is hard to keep on size during a season

But also strength and build has never been high priority under hinkley.

Moss's quads are about twice as big as they are since last year. Impressive stuff.
