How the hell can Carlton let him go out there like that? Surely pull him in the warm up or something if you can tell he’s cooked? Probably cost them the game as well

They pulled him for most of the last quarter so obviously they knew something was up by then.

The timeline of events will be interesting. If it comes out that they had even an inkling before that last quarter, not good enough.

The fact that he clearly wasn't right and they continued playing him, is very average.

People will assume he's high, perhaps he's actually unmedicated (as in, he forgot to take prescribed medication).
Or overdid prescribed meds, or mixed them with the wrong things.

There's obviously more scenarios than just the most obvious, but none of them are good and it's sad that he hasn't been looked after by the club more.

Absolutely. Ultimately, Carlton as his employer owed Elijah a duty of care tonight and if they chose to play him knowing he wasn't necessarily in the best state then that's a very bad look and not good enough (like you said). This sort of stuff is very delicate, but I just find it hard to believe NO ONE noticed anything prior to the fourth quarter.

I dunno.

The backstory obviously raises the possibility he might have been coming off a bender.

But I just find it so hard to believe that not a single Carlton person could have noticed something was up in the hours before the game, and done something about it.

Really hope he didn’t just forget to take some meds before the game, and suddenly lost contact with reality halfway though. That’d be devastating.

Which means it could have unfolded as the game went on.

Especially if there's a mental health component involved.

Do we know what quarter the footage of him running backwards and acting completely bizzare was? There’s no way no coach saw that and the moment they did he should’ve been pulled from the match

Looks to me like he is having a manic episode unfortunately. Poor bloke. I hope he gets the help that he needs, regardless of the cause.

Yeah it looks really concerning. Hope he’s alright, imagine going through something like that when you’re literally in front of 80,000 people.

Sigh. The pile on in here already claiming he’s on illicit drugs without any proof is disappointing. There’s so many alternative explanations to the erratic behaviour that are much more likely such as prescription medication issues, manic / disassociate episode etc.

Irrespective of what it is, Something isn’t right here and a young man is not well so let’s try to be respectful.

This is where I’m at.

Whether it was a psychotic episode, or it was the result of taking drugs beforehand, in either case you’ve got several medical professionals on the ground, and none of them saw fit to remove him from the ground. Why?

McKay kicks a goal at the end of the footage, so you should be able to track it down from there

Whilst I accept that they are possible, unfortunately when you're dealing with a player who has had at least one confirmed incident with illicit substances, and several highly rumoured instances as well, including as recently as last year... I don't think you can really say it is "much more likely".
