NO TROLLS Elijah Hollands (GC-Carlton): Recent Developments & Mental Health Wellbeing

So just to be clear. Carlton have had a week to come up with an angle and they've settled on "We were across all the info and EH's condition. Coaches and medical staff arrived at the considered position to let him ride out his Ricky Bobby style melt down. From a team perspective, we were happy to soak up a zero possession game with one of our players an out and out liability to his teammates on the night and a genuine threat of coming to serious personal harm due to his lack of match awareness."

That's it right?

Genius.

Carlton in a nutshell:

How do Voss and his assistants still have a job? Carlton are truly a weak club.
it seems hard to blame the coaches when under the afls pro drug, no responsibilities policy, the coaching staff arent allowed to be told.
The only person who should have been sacked at Carlton is the idiot that decided to re-sigh EH.

It's absolutely on brand but the Blues are mismanaging this phase of this saga still.
Media wise this cycle has almost passed but they need to reignite the media storm by releasing their findings. It's not unreasonable to at the very least suspect that the longer this drags on, the more likely a positive drug sample is.
In absence of a positive sample it's a very straight forward process for club and player and this would have been sorted all but a little worksafe slap on the wrist and some BF pontificating. But then Blues approach has done nothing but drag this on and add fuel to the fire.
They know the facts now (they'd have known 5 days ago) and a simple media statement would have it wrapped. Without it.......something stinks

"EH has well documented ongoing MH concerns. During the match against Collingwood, EH experienced an an acute exacerbation of his previously diagnosed conditions which has unfortunately drawn a large amount of scrutiny on him and the CFC.
EH has complied with all investigations into this matter and has not breached any laws applicable to the AFL or ASADA tested anthletes.

CFC will be providing support to EH and his family during this time and no further discussion on this matter will be entered into by the club or EH at this time.

EH has expressed his desire to have his privacy respected and will make a statement in due to course.

EH would have to agree to any statement relating to his health first. Forget the AFL - that’s privacy laws.

When one of my team calls in sick, I have to let others know but I’m not allowed to say they are sick unless they expressly permit that, I just send a circular email that they won’t be in on that day

Worksafe will take 3 months to reach their findings, you will all forget about this before they come out.

That's basically exactly what was said in Graham Wights presser on the Sunday ???

So the doctor’s making his position pretty clear… don’t even think about mentioning me here.

Reminiscent of when the AFL “charged” Essendon’s doctor during the drug saga. It was one of the more comical episodes of the whole thing. Reid basically instructed the AFL himself to drop the “charges”. And they immediately did without explanation.

The explanation is that they wanted to avoid real courts as much as humanly possible. Same tactic, legitimate or otherwise, will work here too.

As it should. For the AFL to say this doctor did the wrong thing is to question his credentials and his expertise. Given he along with the club sport psychologist are the two people who would be most aware of Elijah's issues and most familiar with what works for his treatment. This doctor I'm led to believe works with our Olympian athletes. Questioning his expertise would be opening up Pandora's Box. The AFLDA (Doctor's Association) have already come out and backed his handling. And former club psychologist's from other clubs have backed the handling.

Would just be opening a minefield of legal action. It's a messy situation.

Did he write his own medical slip to get time off or does he have to go to another doctor to get diagnosed?

I wonder if he has seen a lawyer and spin doctor too along the way?

The AFL seem to take every legal threat seriously rather than maybe just investigating without bias?

The key, as I stated, is the drug sample outcome.

They know the result. IF it was negative, then they make that statement.

Done.

The longer they neglect to make the test result known, the more the suspicion is that it's being withheld because it's not favourable.

I doubt they are allowed to make drug test results public. They said he willingly submitted to the test and that's about all they can say. They've followed the process asked of them by the AFL and will cop whatever whack is due to come their way.

If it's a game day positive that falls within ASADA's remit, you'd better believe it'll be public. If it's recreational and he's been on a 3 day pinga bender leading up to the game it'll fall within the AFL's brand protection/enabling policy and he'll be fine and it just gets swept under the AFL's lumpy rug until he Trav Tuck's it in a few years time.

AFL will clear him - they cleared Doc Reid with the most blatant fabricated evidence when Essendon was caught doping, this is minor compared to that.

Correct, he's safe as a house. They cleared the Demons Dr after he blatantly lied about Dank using his juice on Demons players too.

I recall that a bit differently. My recollection is that Reid spoke out his concerns about the Essendon program, put pen to paper on this also, and was cut out of the loop of discussion from then on. I’m not sure where the “blatant fabricated evidence” bit comes from. It was a long time back and I might have forgotten bits. My recollection though is that he was a professional in a uniquely dreadful spot who did his level best as a Doctor.

What else would he be referring to?

What a shitty thing to say about Elijah then.

Especially when all parties have said illicit drugs are not involved.

The child I do not speak of. I'm merely speculating that he could become collateral damage (as we've seen many times previously) of an afl policy that prioritises their brand over the health of their players. If it's taboo to discuss the ongoing failures of the system, the system itself will never change for the better. And in the absence of change and improvement you'll have more young men to weep over while simultaneously remaining silent about the factors that contributed to their demise lest you become triggered. A truly progressive approach I must say.

When it looked like Reid would be in trouble and loose his medical licence, a handwritten note from years earlier was suddenly found. The handwritten note was supposedly meant for the CEO and the board, but they claim he gave it to the football operations boss, and he forgot to pass it on.

In the days of email and record keeping, it's laughable to pretend he had handwritten a note, especially when it was intended for multiple people, he gave it to a person it was not addressed to when he had a close relationship with the CEO, the note went missing, then suddenly appeared when he needed an excuse.

And Essendon kept no records of what they took, but did keep a handwritten bit of paper?

But he is old and a luddite so handwritten notes in the wrong pigeon hole at work is on brand. In fact he is such an out of touch boomer that he wouldn't even agree to the club using cutting edge peptides on its players! Such a loser!
