Autopsy Round 8 | St Kilda vs Carlscum

For what its worth, Jack nearly started crying when he was asked about Carlton in the post match interview, he was holding back tears for sure. He clearly loves the club, and that's okay.
It would be hard to leave a place that not only you have mates at but also a rich family connection

Diabolical 3rd quarter from Cripps. Was the fire starter for us, chicken winged Garcia which just got Silvagni and Garcia revved up, got done HTB by Hall which gave us our 7th or 8th goal in a row, decided he'd then lean with his fist on Hall's throat coz he was salty, really seemed to motivate the group and continued getting smashed in centre clearances by Nas, Hall and Garcia. At least he'll always have his tooth paste ads.

Back end of the season, I'd be hoping this team is firing a bit and probably have the following changes:

IN: King, Ryan, Higgins, Wilson.

OUT: Caminiti, Butler, LOC, Macrae.

Forward line would be looking quite potent, and a few could rotate through the midfield/fwd line (Hall, Henry, Pou). Won 3 of the last 5 games, with a 1 point loss to Adelaide in Adelaide (which was a bit of a robbery) and a 30 point loss to the back to back premiers. All in all, emotionally checked in right now.

Did I hear that Darcy Wilson complained about a calf last week but the doctors said he’s good to go and he didn’t really trust them? Now he’s texting in about a virus. Is something going on there? Sounds like me trying to get out of Woolies when I was 17.
My trick was ringing the boss at 4:30am, I knew I'd get the voice mail, knew his boomer mind saw text messages as being fake, but phone calls were always real

So, after an early scare, but then a very pleasing win.
We move on to next week.

Ins. Collard, Higgins, Ryan, Wilson

Outs. Butler, Carroll, O'Connell, Stocker

Carroll has improved but just dont think we need him atm

O'Connell has improved, just dont think we need him also atm

I know its only 1 game for Collard at half-back in the vfl team. But gee he looked good there, we could do with his speed & elite kicking.

Collard is NOT in after a single game in defense where he made plenty of errors. Collard is PROMISING after the game.
Butler out means that Henry holds his spot with Higgins back. Henry was good, but i felt he wasn't defensive enough at times.

Hugo Garcia 2nd half after Ross told him to drop the double team on Cripps:

7 score involvements
3 goal assists
6 contested possessions
3 clearances
12 disposals @ 100% efficiency

Genuinely elite areas. Would've been an elite full game for the fourth week in a row if he wasn't tagging in the first half

Saints have scored 100+ 3 consecutive weeks

The last time that happened?

2012
7 in a row, 4 wins 3 losses, I haven't checked who we beat, or where they ended up on the ladder.

All I'll say is any record we achieved with Scott Watters should be ignored, that midget helped set the club back 5 years.

No, you don't get it. She broke the story, but because she's a good journalist she rang those involved so they could give their side of the story.

She knew what happened, but didn't know about all the beats. Ross told her exactly what happened - and then she reported it that night.

Carl Dilena found out earlier that day, presumably because Caro rang him for comment.

Caro is one of the best journalists in the industry. She gets a lot of hate, but she's rarely ever wrong. Sometimes people give her information that ends up not being true, but she's rarely wrong. Like her, or not - she's one of the good ones.
I reckon Ross used his relationship with Caroline to leak the story so as to better manage the narrative.

Better to rip that plaster off now rather than try and sit on it and run the risk of it becoming a bigger story than it was.

Just listening to the post-game interviews, media snippets, and random player interactions

There is quite a bit of love for Dougal especially from the defenders. Wilkie mentioned 'personnel coming in the last couple of weeks' to help with defence and JSOS gave him BOG tonight, and I recall last week there were words of appreciation for him too

Held McKay goalless tonight and did a lot more right than wrong. Happy to see this trio of him + Wilkie + JSOS working an absolute treat and looking forward to seeing if we get back to 2023 levels of defence whilst balancing that with our improved offence

A couple things.

- the games coops and Owens played was elite and they played 95% and 94% respectively.

Just amazing work rate from them.

I’m stoaked for Cooper. It has not always come easy for him. Playing different roles, getting dropped.

His skills off both feet for someone his size are just elite. Cannot wait for him to get the second best defender.

At some moments tonight, might've been towards the end of quarters, we moved the ball so quickly from end to end in a manner that I don't think we would've ever attempted previously.. impressive and just something that really stood out.

Ive been lurking in the Carlton board. I dont hate them, raised in WA, so far enough away to develop deeper more bitter hatreds elsewhere, sort of knew Jon Dorotich, we've raided their pantry, I have a number of tolerable Carlton supporting friends. I'd almost say I have a soft spot.

That being said, Ive sometimes pondered how supporting a team that’s historically rubbish is actually easier than supporting a powerhouse that’s spent the last 20 years falling apart.

We have a life time of building coping mechanisms. Dark humour. Low expectations. Over time, you build resilience. Calluses. Perspective. You know how to carry disappointment without theatrics because disappointment has never pretended to be anything else. It doesn’t arrive unexpectedly. It just turns up, like it always does, and you deal with it.

Now contrast that with supporters of a so‑called powerhouse that’s been garbage for only the last 20 years. Every loss is treated like a crisis, a shocking injustice. It triggers outrage, blame, panic, enquiries, sack everyone discourse. It’s never just a loss, it’s a betrayal, a symptom of something deeply broken in the universe. Every bad season is a once in a lifetime tragedy. Massive reactions. Meltdowns. Their self‑image still says “big club,” but reality keeps pissing in their face.

And honestly, on cold dark nights, I feel a bit sorry for them. We were trained for this. We were conditioned. We learned how not to expect joy from sport. They weren’t. They were raised on success, entitlement, and the comforting lie that they "deserve success".

But then in other moments I remember they are a bunch of cheating self entitled ****s so ¯\\\(ツ)\/¯, long may it continue.

Its hard for Cooper, we all know his turning circle is more than that of the titanic, so after he gets to the backline, its hard for him to run in any direction other than forward, it then becomes a goal or bust. If you keep a close eye out , you'll see Ro pick him up and point him in the right direction after the goal.
