How good is it to beat the Blues!!!

Henry - so good to see him have a good game and we needed it with Higgins and Ryan out. He feels like a bonus player as he has been injured for so long

Sharman was so good. His field kicking is elite. Also good to see him sticking his marks and seems to have great movement. He is now very involved in games where he used to have good patches. Goal kicking is a bit off, but we already know he's a great kick so that will come.

Ruck combo worked best it has all year. No idea why we werent playing resting ruck deep forward all year. Playing 2 tucks resting ruck needs to be a forward threat - hopefully this continues

Hugo Garcia - i love this kid - he is a competitive beast. Takes different angles in tight as well and is so efficient.

Silvagni defended really well.

Brad Hill is having some season - absolute legend. Running power doesnt seem like has dropped off at all.

I was worried we wouldnt pull this off with so many changes and losing so much scoring power. Great win!!

On the negatives, without looking at the stats - Macrae looked pretty average and slow. Caminiti - hardly noticed him

I just don't see them as best 22 in a years time, so I'd have Tauru, Boxshall and after today - Collard ahead of them.

If I'm wrong about Carroll, and O'Connell tell me I'm wrong, I just don't see it. I don't see it with Caminiti either - but Grant Thomas thinks he has something so I feel like I'm wrong about him lol

Caminiti is almost told to drag his opponent out of the forward 50 at the moment. Last week he seems to be a place holder for King but he's not running where the rest of the forwards are. He's hanging outside the 50 dragging an opponent.

Lyon always used a few sacrificial players. Butler seemed to always be playing up the field. He seemed to be always next to Jagga Smith last night before going down. Carroll and Stocker seemed to not get much opportunity last night. Our deep talls cleared the ball long and Carlton kicked over them.

LOC is a brutal player, just looks like a swinging bag of hammers. I reckon he'll get developed into a Ross Lyon enforcer eventually. Carroll has been good lately. Still under 50 games and young.

Carlton aren't terrible but they are psychologically fragile.
They have a few who aren’t up to afl standard and a couple the game has moved past.

They need a clean out which will come with a new coach. Voss has been in win now mode with a team that even at its best wasn’t quite up to it.

Yep.
Surprised by Henry.
I have realised he is deceptive. He moves a bit like Hunter Clark - like he is moving in slow motion, but we really needed him and he delivered.
The twin rucks story finally pays off. They had one goal between them for the year. I thought TDK was incapable of kicking straight period.
It feels like so long since two in a row at such a critical point, but he had to get these, Gold Coast and Freo coming up (with a Richmond sandwiched between them)

I was supremely confident we would run over them.

It was a funny night, my daughters birthday so we had everyone around.

By game time I’m down the in the back lounge enjoying some Thai food and watching the game with my son and Carlton tragic son in law. Everyone else is in the front lounge and dining room, not interested in the footy and my son in law gets loud and intense.

First half he’s leaping around, commentating and riding every bump, he’s pumped but is already worrying about a second half collapse. Second half was a thing of Beauty, we had the cake lighting at half time 🤣🤣 now I’m sitting back enjoying a quite bourbon.

He’s coming apart at the seams as we kick 8 in a row, their players are all lousy, weak, Jagga can’t play, florent is so overpaid. By the last quarter all hope has gone not just for this game but it’s i can’t see us winning another game, would we get a 1st if we traded Cripps 🤣🤣.

Turns to talk of how will they ever rebuild and it’s another decade on the bottom.

Carlton hate loosing to us, we didn’t just beat them last night we sapped all the hope out of them. That shot of their supporters flooding out with 10 minutes to play was an absolute highlight.

Great team effort and a shout out to Henry who had a good game first up after a long struggle with injury.
How sure are we about son in law? Very poor judgement from him getting so up and about 😂

Collard did ok in the VFL, and he has excellent disposal by foot, though did make some decision errors too, just need follow up with another good game. Carroll also has excellent disposal by foot and is probably stronger than Lance and is doing a good job. Boxshall was our best in the VFL game and must be considered for a recall. I presume Henry will take Butler's place, and Wilson for LoC, then there's Ryan and Higgo to come back. Good to have a bit of selection pressure on.
How is Lancey playing, wasn't he suspended?

Blues gameday thread, lots of despair a smattering of copium.
One trying to convince himself JSOS was emotional about Carlton and TDK wasn't as he was a Saints supporter.
Here's a tip. When SOS was an assistant underRoss 1.0, JSOS would run around the club with a Saints jersey on. Jo said he was a Saints supporter.
Sorry to bust your cope champ, but the Silvagni's have cut the cord with that s**tstain of a club.

Actually looked like he was a bit overwhelmed by the occasion. He seems like a sweet guy and it would be a huge burden being 3rd generation Carlton royalty. Makes him a better bloke.

The twin rucks has been building for a couple of weeks. Marshall really finding his role.

Interesting that Ross pointed out the upcoming fixtures in his press conference. Usually just focuses on next week, but it's a really tough month for us and doesn't actually get much easier after that.

When Henry was pushed in the back after the goal was kicked, Nas remonstrated and a fracas ensued.

It was right at the fence.

What would’ve been a 10 year old boy leaned over the fence, stuck his finger up several times and was clearly yelling ‘f*ck you’ to every Carlton player involved.

THAT is the future we are fighting for. Bring that boy’s passion to every game and we will improve out of sight.

Go the Saints. And to quote the great young fella who involved himself in the fracas, F*ck you Carlton.

Loved that kid. Wish he was my son.

He’s an absolute carlton tragic and true to form there’s always next week. If it wasn’t for my daughters birthday he’d have gone to the game.

After Brisbane get done with them you have to wonder how long Voss can last. I did spend some time last week getting my grandson to yell go saints.

I periodically ask him if it would be better for my grandson if they just get on board with the saints. It’s the usual you’ll be down for another decade, you live in Hampton and can take him to training.

It’s never going to happen but a bit of good natured banter doesn’t hurt.

His kicking has been excellent so far this year, not the liability he used to be.
Not enough love for Doogs. Rock solid last night and a more natural defender than Camineti (who is struggling IMO). As we know he can be prone to the odd brain fade but at the moment is just doing the basics well and making a contribution. Agree with other poster who suggested that if Doogs plays against Adelaide we win that game.

Collard is NOT in after a single game in defense where he made plenty of errors. Collard is PROMISING after the game.
Butler out means that Henry holds his spot with Higgins back. Henry was good, but i felt he wasn't defensive enough at times.
Believe it's mandatory 10 days for concussion so Higgo likely misses next week. Ryan and Wilson should be back and hoping Tauru gets another run at it. Obviously Butler out but perhaps Wilson for LOC and Tauru for Caminiti. Maybe Box for Macrae but thought he was solid last night. 15 disposals from around 60% game time and he hits targets. Good problem to have.

Weakest side we have put out all year and Blues pretty much at full strength so a good win in the circumstances.

Hugo Garcia 2nd half after Ross told him to drop the double team on Cripps:

7 score involvements
3 goal assists
6 contested possessions
3 clearances
12 disposals @ 100% efficiency

Genuinely elite areas. Would've been an elite full game for the fourth week in a row if he wasn't tagging in the first half

He seemed to spend a lot of the first half on the bench.

So, after an early scare, but then a very pleasing win.
We move on to next week.

Ins. Collard, Higgins, Ryan, Wilson

Outs. Butler, Carroll, O'Connell, Stocker

Carroll has improved but just dont think we need him atm

O'Connell has improved, just dont think we need him also atm

I know its only 1 game for Collard at half-back in the vfl team. But gee he looked good there, we could do with his speed & elite kicking.
You’re dropping 3 small defenders for a game that’s usually played in dewy, humid conditions?

Long, Humphrey, Lombard & Jeffrey will kick 20 between them.

Silvagnis interview after the game reminded me of BJ after the Essendon game where they flogged us in his first game against us. Very emotional, that would have hurt for Blues fans.

He seems like an outstanding character.
We've done incredibly well getting guys like Wood and Hill, who have been brilliant role models. If JSOS does similar he'll be worth every cent of the $8 mill he's getting.

Got the sense from watching the match that the playing group look connected, getting around each other etc - which in the Ratten era was glaringly absent. Perhaps the connectedness is starting to pay off with selfless and smarter play
