I've changed my mind on some of our senior core.

I'd be listening to offers on Weitering, McKay, and Cripps.

They've had their time and have failed to deliver as leaders. I don't want them mentoring the next generation.

If we can secure multiple firsts for Weitering and sign someone like Butts as a free agent, we have improved our list.

Get what you can for McKay. Not sure there would be many takers. Similar story for Cripps.

Look at how Melbourne have rejuvenated after shipping off Petracca and Oliver.

I come in peace.

If Essendon finish last this year, there is a way we could form an unlikely alliance, and make a mega trade to benefit both sides.

You guys get pick 1 & pick 3 to match for Walker.

We get 4-5 first round picks back over the next 3 years. Assuming you guys trade out 1-2 of your senior players.

The team has holes in key areas after the exodus. We especially need a better ruck with pitto as back up. A running half back with elite disposal and some pace and another mid with pace and clean hands & a genuine full forward. ( Harry's better up the ground CHF).

And a coach who actually can coach!

Because Cripps and Cerra have the exact same flaws in their games.

Cripps is basically undroppable, rightly so, but he needs to improve going the other way.

No idea why Cerra has a guaranteed spot in the side, but he is younger and dropping him at this point in his career would be an admission of failure. They have sunk a lot of currency and resources into him.

I think people are forgetting how good George actually is. Even in the game he got dropped for he had a team high 7 tackles. He wasn’t great but he was our best on baller on the day. It’s ridiculous.
Agree with what your saying about cerra. Cerra does just enough in games... with no impact to get dropped. So it gives us value to trade him.
Really hope they trade him. He's too vanilla.

Fair to say where all abit flat.

Love to here others opinions aa to what happend from when we played giants in 2024 looking like a top 2 team 7 goals up early in the game & thinking where here to here for abstained success to get neaten & the wheels 🛞 well & truly falling off & heading to another rebuild ( shades of 2009 - 2011 then declining fast )

I think moving some real fabric players pllike Kennedy owies etc + losing some big names & key position players 🤔 has changed the whole culture / impact of the team.

I now thinking that if we are literally starting again thrugh drafting that I would Def entertain offers for Weiters, McKay , Vanilla Cerra & say Paddy do you want to head back to WA.

How on earth do you lose TDk , jsos & Charlie while not getting any key position depth... we dont even have any in the twos FFs.🤔

It's never as good or as bad as it seems but the club needs to make some drastic changes.

It's a sad state the club is in ... once again 😔

We have Carlton and Sydney's 1st rounders next year, I'd do that in a heartbeat

Mihocek could’ve been that forward leader that was Hodge-esque.. with Brisbane Sal cap going to bite and maybe cats in a transition of sorts are there senior players worth levering out to us?
I would prefer this approach v another rebuild that sees our best senior players traded out - no matter how out of form or disengaged they appear right now. Personally I’ve sat through too many rebuilds as a supporter to know they don’t work. Absolutely sick of watching us do that whilst the likes of Collingwood, Geelong and Hawthorn tweak things and at best reset and seem to be perennial finalists

Has become injury prone big Checkers. Pinged his hammy just then in the first 5 mins vs Syd.

Austin picks Chesser, ignores Rosas.

The drunk at the local front bar knew Rosas would be ideal.

Austin’s trades have been overall an abject failure.

Not 1 decent young forward, not 1 decent young ruckman.

How do you know he ignored him? Fairly sure we were linked to him as far back as 2023

Tell that to this board. When his name was floated he was regarded as a one way running dud who only got joe the goose goals.

That said I doubt we were interested in him, anyone capable of getting out of jogging speed is too fast for Austin to be keen on.

More likely Rosas chose Sydney

If you’re a player and you had a choice between Carlton and just about any other club, what would u choose?

Doesnt matter. All clubs are linked to mostly all players out of contract. It's what you bring in that counts.
I fail to see how this is obviously Austin’s fault? It could’ve been as simple as - he wanted to stay in the northern states (he’s an NT lad), then that ruled us out immediately

Surely you know by now that every player wants to come to Carlton, and if they end up somewhere else then it's all Austin's fault.....you know, failed list management, he didn't try hard enough and all that stuff.

Reckon most of these posters complaining wouldn't have even heard of Rosas before today 😂

I would be adding Cerra to the list to be traded, we need to give the keys to Smith, Lord, Walker and see what we got with the Campo boys.

Add O'Farrell, Carroll, Byrne, Wilson, Flynn Young, Moir, Ison and any top end draft picks over the next 2-3 years to that list and we have the start of a strong team nucleus for the future, provided we can maintain and recruit some free agent senior leadership role models to show the way.

I know many of us are pessimistic about the future but I don't think it's all doom and gloom provided we get the next coaching appointment right as we have plenty of young talent on our list just waiting to be developed.

If we had Rosas, Voss would have him spend half of his game defending in the back pocket. We don’t give small forwards the opportunity to shine (Durdin) Our group are not superstars, but we have a handful of AFL quality small and medium forwards. It is more about deployment than ability, although most could do with an extra yard of pace.

How many times so far this season has the opposition ruckman been in the best players, would almost be every week.
I can’t help but think our brilliant coaches have mis read the ruck pecking order. Hudson O’Keeffe (HOK/Skull) was tracking well as a developing ruck. Did have repeated soft tissue injuries, which may have precipitated the switch to forward first, pinch hitting ruck. Not sure if injury or perhaps delisting of Lemmey brought about the change of perception.

The kicker is that HOK is a 202cm jumping ruck. While still maturing physically, our staff clearly decided to limit his weight work last off season after presenting “big” following the previous one. The changing of ruck rules absolutely suits HOK more than any other ruck on our list. Instead of cultivating the possibilities pre season, Voss and co. embraced the taller bull Reidy as the heir apparent. While I believe Reidy can be serviceable in the role, a Pittonet/O’Keeffe combination should be the go.

Moving back in the pecking order and some very limited deployment has totally destroyed the confidence of O’Keeffe. He should be teamed with Pittonet as a complimentary pairing. Splitting the centre ball ups. HOK can move forward after the initial contest, allowing the more combative Pitto to operate around the ground in “traditional” ruck contests. HIK played some impressive cameos last year as a forward ruck, from memory broke a record for the most contested grabs on debut.

The other possibility for HOK, who is more athletic than his peers would be to gphave some schooling behind the ball as a key back. With Lewis Young capable if a ruck chop out (once upon a time played first ruck in a final for the Dogs), we should have the scope to educate HOK in that area. Instead, like so many other players, he fronts to the same role week in week out. Hell, he even has to sit forward in the twos, with Flynn Riley given the prime ruck role when Pitto and Reidy are required elsewhere or missing. I like Riley (and would happily add him to the list), but O’Keeffe is being destroyed by our brainstrust.

Watching 194cm Leek Aleer playing effective ruck minutes for GWS in the era of jumping rucks, why the hell do we leave our most suited to the new rules stagnating out of the goal square?
