Any updates on Moama moving to Bendigo or GV leagues. I heard it’s gaining momentum

With the Murray League now sitting on 11 clubs, where is the future growth going to come from? If Moama look elsewhere we get to the magical 10, but can we stay there?

We've seen Murray League clubs moving on over the last couple of decades and other than a period in the 90s/00s which saw the entry of Congupna, Tongala and Rumbalara it's been a bit of one way traffic; Jerilderie, Strathmerton, Berrigan, Tocuwmal, Barooga all making the move.

Will we see population hold or grow in towns like Tongala, Finley and Nathalia to keep them competing at MFL level over the next 20 years? Are there new houses being built in these towns?

You could assume that Cobram, Deniliquin, Echuca, Moama, Numurkah, Mulwala are centres that should not have too much trouble with population. Rapid growth in North Shepparton should see Congupna continue to strengthen across all grades as could Rumbalara.

The Demise of Tatura could bring them across in the near future?

I think Tatura would be a perfect fit for the Murray League, but being a foundation GVL club is something that they are very proud of and would want to maintain. Great to see their Under 18s a huge chance to make finals this year!

What has occured , is occurring and will occur in future , without change , within MfL is an extension of what is occurring right around Victoria .
Decision making is major city eccentric , which naturally favours those in major cities and within dense populations .
Clubs like Deni and Finley who are 100klms ( hour) from major cities are going to find it extremely challenging, particularly in juniors and lower grades, to consistently compete .
Credit to them for the effort they continue to put up and the level they are able to compete at .
3rds going to u18’s will make it even more challenging .
Unfortunately it’s influenced by those higher up on the food chain , whose KPI’s are driven by gross participation levels.

Willie Rioli and his bro having a run with Deni Rams this weekend.
