Chris Davies is a very strong operator.
Its telling, that sitting next to the other two (who in their fields are very very well credentialled and great operators) that CD stood out. He is a great communicator, very genuine, and his confidence in being transparent and honest is a show of his character.
I've been very impressed.

I don't see this as blind faith at all

This is like Whateley yesterday. Not actually looking at what's happening and taking a broad overview. This is NOT the old Carlton

Look at Wright, what he has done and he had done already. There is a clear plan and history of making things work. We are financially strong for the first time on 3 decades.

He has actually done a lot of the work to the football dept. It is now Coach & LM to do and at end of the year we will do more to list

I see genuine evidence that we are making good things happen and are improving
Yeah well, no list manager or recruitment manager is not a good position to be in at all 5 months before an absolutely crucial period in the history of this club

That's underestimating what we have, Luff is ex LM at North and Manson is highly rated. Wright is one of the best List Managers ever anyway and is controlling this List change

This won't change, effect anything we do, and if anything I believe Wright had all this as part of plan and is prepared for it

Please don’t compare me to Gerard Whateley, I despise the man

You’re talking about stuff I can’t see. You have faith because you see and hear things that I don’t. That doesn’t make them right or wrong, it’s simply how you interpret them

I like the way Chris Davies presents. He seems assured, confident and in control. That was a Wright hire and I like it

I don’t see how the new beefed up recruiting staff are working, same with the footy department. Only on field results and/or style of play will determine that for me from a distance

You’re an optimist and I get that, I have been at times too. Currently I’m just in wait and see mode. Not saying GW will be a resounding success or a miserable failure as I have no idea. That’s what I mean by blind faith, it’s not meant as a knock on him, I’ll just need to see results first

I was pretty confident in 09-11 and 22-24, just can’t get my hopes up like that again atm

Whilst I am impressed with all the work Wright has done and is doing the TWO most important roles at an AFL Club are Coach & LM. They also need to be on the same page

Wright now has clear air on both to appoint who he wants.

Needs to NAIL these decisions

we are putting blind faith on tgis man to turn things around. I am starting to wonder if he is out of his depth as a CEO. Just get a negative vibe about him. Why do I get the feeling it will end in disaster….like it always has the last 25 years
Concerns about GW capacity of commercial side of the CEO job are valid. They aren’t when it comes to football operations imo.

It’s very easy to be negative at the moment.

Look at his background;

Successful player , list manager, HOF & now CEO - it’s a strong natural progression. He’s been very successful in each role he’s progressed from to date. He has a very capable (if not somewhat scary) HOF in Chris Davies to handle the footy dept.

He a football CEO - someone who can make qualitative judgements on football performance, rather than the business side of CFC.

One thing he would know - get the football outcomes right & the business outcomes will follow.

Imagine sitting opposite GW & CD in a meeting - Strewth.

Just need to pray the board lets GW do his thing.
Given his pedigree & demeanour - I can’t see them getting in the way.

He & Davies instil confidence.

Importantly, he knows what they don’t.

They have no choice but to trust his measured, pragmatic football approach.

If ever there was a time to have a CEO who over-indexes on football operations, and probably under-indexes on off-field stuff, it's now. Hasn't everyone been bemoaning the fact that for too long the CFC has forgotten that it's a football club before all else?

We'll obviously have to wait and see on the results, but I like the strategy.

Wright was chosen for his build a football team capability. Giving him the CEO role means he doesn’t have to deal with politics and pushback from anyone that he may have had to do in the past (except for the board), buck stops with him and he’ll develop this next incarnation of Carlton in his image… unless he’s a paid Pies plant:

You have your head of football and CEO who probably is the most accomplished list builder of recent times reshaping the list in their image currently. CEO and Head of Football will also be driving coach selection in due course, so very tight process, prob not huge need for another cook in the kitchen at this juncture.
Any list manager incoming will already be across the draft talent pool from their existing club role. Would rather it reverse engineered this way than the other. Less moving parts. Its settled, Pres, GW and CD seem very connected and clearly have a plan and are executing.

Coaching role you dont want filled till later in the season anyway once you've had a good look at the list with the shackles off And much of the low hanging reshaping done. Would think the list manager roll already filled just cant be announced. Am really comfortable with current approach.

To that end, No Lloyd, No Austin, No Voss (respectfully). If that doesnt get you out of bed and sing out the window of a morning nothing will!

I get your excitement Garters, but if we head into the end of the season without a list manager or recruitment manager then that screams bush league amateurism.
Don’t care that’s what Wright used to do, he has enough on his plate doing his current day job to be doing anything more than a very cursory look.
If the rumour this morning is true that Austin is looking at his legal options it tells me he was definitely pushed which you would automatically assume we have someone lined up, if not boy oh boy Wowee

Yeah well, no list manager or recruitment manager is not a good position to be in at all 5 months before an absolutely crucial period in the history of this club
That is why had Wright sacked Voss and Austin last August when he started, it would have been worse. If the new recruiter comes from another club, he will be across the draft. We have first mover advantage regarding the senior coach role, which we would not have had last year
