Some people are trying to sell the idea that AI will lead us into some kind of panacea where work becomes optional and everyone is wealthy from a UBI. The theory is that AI will become taxed in the same way that oil in Alaska is taxed, and the dividends shared. And that AI will result in all products being cheap so $3,000 per month buys you a comfortable lifestyle.
There's a lot of assumptions built into that model.
Will the billionaires in control of AI allow their assets to be heavily taxed?
Housing remains the biggest cost for most people. Robots can't build a house, let alone for someone on $36,000 pa.
If everyone is entitled to UBI, what is the incentive for people to work in vital jobs such as healthcare, plumbing, police?
