I guess there are different forms of "experience," each with different values in relation to forming a winning team in the future.
- experience at the level, just getting used to being tackled harder, the game and ball moving faster and so on
- experience in the team, getting used to how your...
It doesn't much matter if you are not contending. Perfect player, gets his job done to get you over the line for flags, then gets you good draft picks when you are not in contention. :)
You need to apply the opening quote. Jack Graham is one of the sacrificial players who took Richmond from good/competitive to great. And I mean the opposition barely had an answer to us for a 4 year period.
Lynch, Lefau and Balta as second ruck/key forward for half a dozen games later this season to help build some connection for next year might have enticing possibilities if they are all fit next year. Shame we didn't get to see it this year but this time as the focal point should help Lefau down...
Well history says the opposite where Richmond FC is concerned. Have a look at the turnover of players one year to the next when Graeme Richmond was calling the shots. And what sent us spiralling was him paying top dollar for outsiders and not looking after our own existing players.
Our...
They were as much as 6 goals better than the 3rd best team in the finals and 8 goals weaker than the premier - though that latter figure was clearly unkind to the Crows who were playing on Richmond's home ground and he 8 goals was only 8 scoring shots.
Crows were a very good team who were...
Adelaide rated on average 237.9 in the official ratings in 2017 and slightly higher in 2016. This is ay higher than Geelong in 2022 who rated 217.1 on average. Brisbane rated 211 in 2024.
In fact since these ratings commenced in 2012, only the following teams have returned a better average...
Those teams have won 8 Grand Finals between them over the last 61 seasons.
Richmond has won 8 Grand Finals on their own over the last 57 seasons.
The CEO's of Collingwood, Geelong and Swans should be publicly declaring they want to be more like Richmond.
I would hereby like to congratulate the rebuilding Geelong FC on suddenly turning 27 years 10 months old on average and including 1 player with under 50 games experience for the game against Carlton this week.
Wait, what? Mr Meow has turned full circle and score involvements from a small handful of games are now a critical measure of a player's performance.
Let's see Hopper fully fit operating in a Richmond team that is close to full strength consistently, then we can start making judgements. Not...
You are obviously trolling, but Hopper has played well in the games he has played this season, although a bit ragged with his disposal after 6 weeks on the sidelines injured v Melbourne, he was the leading possession getter on the ground when he left the field injured and the Demons mids only...
If anyone thinks Hopper is not an important player for us....have a look at Richmond's average clearance differentials when Hopper has played compared to when he has not played in 2023 & 2024. Just quietly, there is a massive difference.
A lot of that is to do with the options available, and the connection and familiarity between the player and his team-mates. Remember also Hopper himself was bound to be a bit rusty after 4-5 weeks on the sidelines.
Plety to like amongst the unproven Tigers last night. They just need to keep playing together and over time the connections between them will get more fluent.
The unproven 23-25yo contingent Young, Miller, Lefau all showed some nice things amongst a few errors as well. These guys won' be...
I think the clear difference between Dow and the absolute best midfielders is that so much of his best work sees him and the ball moving sideways or backwards. This should be by no means terminal for him, it will just keep him below the top tier of mids who can escape congestion going forward...
Fair enough, Cats probably not 12 years older anyway, just need to keep you guys from getting too far ahead of yourselves for your own good. :)
Richmond has a lot of players around a similar level, some with upside and some with downside. But say Grimes, his inclusion probably allows Young a...
Cats line up probably 12 years older than the Demons.
Of all the supporter groups to carry on abut a team with 15 injuries including a couple of senior players, Cats. :tearsofjoy:
Unless he gave his pay back, he played, we lost and he lives with that on his record.
Cumbo clearly brought his statistical win rate killing ability into the 23 in that Swans game and spread it over the team in warm-ups, breaks etc. It is even worse for him if he is able to dampen our winning...
It is. Right up until you have to endure a Richmond supporter reminding you of the longest trail of finals carnage of any pair of teams in the competition's rich and long history. And it is gruesome.
Which I guess explains why all the Cats supporters here have to remind and reassure each...
Because the future is not yet known. Your team has done well for 6 games against all the cellar dwellers and your supporters think they are Usain Bolt. It is hilarious.
