I think its just recognition that he's gone from the best/2nd best test batsman in the world to barely being able to put an innings together over what is now a very long period.
Borders average those 3 calender years without a century were 68, 47 & 37, he scored 17 half centuries in that time.
Kohli's average the last few calender years has been 19, 28, 26 and 36 this year. 7 half centuries. Its well below what Border did.
And that's not neccessarily a bad thing. It was certainly the game changer. Maybe we look back too fondly on ODI's of 30 years ago, teams being 1/25 off 15 and ending up with your 180's or if they really went for it, a 230-240.
Maybe...maybe if you market the * out of it then it might maybe make a small resurgence, but its never going to be like the 80s-early 00s ODI's. Watching teams prod around for singles for 30-35 overs and the odd four every now and then, just doesn't hold much interest in todays landscape...
Its almost surreal that this has happened. Just as he was about to get another crack at Test cricket. Makes you feel sick. Feel so sorry for Sean as well.
Id wait and see what happens, but every chance this will be worse than 89 for England. Theyve been nothing short of an embarrassment. Egos torn to shreds. Reputations ruined.
I doubt anyone would have expected us to be 4-0 heading into Sydney.
Its really bizarre. Its like we spooked them in the 1st test with really aggressive physical bowling and they havent recovered.
