What do the umpires see that makes them give out Brownlow votes?

West Coast Eagles players diving, ducking and doing all kinds of weird acting to get a free. Also, I have a theory that players who did well in previous years (on average) tend to get some easy votes at the start of a new season. As the year progresses the umpires get more of a feeling as to who...

What would have happened if Dane Swan won the Brownlow?

They would have kicked a footy on the stage and then Swan would have been everywhere, just like on the field.

Gary Ablett - Proves He Is The Most Dominant Player In The Game

I cannot argue with the OP, I believe Ablett was dunked into a mystical pool when he was younger, giving him invincible AFL skills, does he have any weaknesses? As a test, Bomber Thompson had Paris shoot arrows at Ablett during a 17 hour football training session. Every single arrow either...

    Weirdest Brownlow Votes?

I was not too surprised that Giles polled a few votes, just that he beat Ward

Things We Learned From the Brownlow Count...

I agree, I agree that Channel Seven should have been showing AFL during 4 hours of dedicated AFL time, not advertisements for the "Aaaah Bra", "Chafing cream" and "Constipation tablets"

Things We Learned From the Brownlow Count...

That the Channel Seven do not know how to attract an audience. I watched the Brownlow last night which was just four hours worth of commercials broken up every now and then by Demetriou reading a list at 57 words per 5 seconds. If a person were to tape the Brownlow Count and play the whole thing...

2012 AFL Grand Final: Hawthorn vs. Sydney - Who does BigFooty want to win? (And tips)

This all depends on accuracy on Hawthorn's behalf, I do not think it is an overstatement to say Hawthorn will have about 35 shots on goal for about 30 scoring shots. If 16 of these go through the two large sticks the swans are in trouble.

My best Brownlow Bets using the Supercoach formula

I got on Tuck back when he was $251 a place, because of a post on this forum. His odds have dropped somewhat.

Which Collingwood midfielder least deserved All Australian?

I get the impression that some players can rest on their laurels based on the previous 3-4 years of football and thus the AA lags somewhat in time.

Western Bulldogs need to start getting balance

I think a mix should be good for Bulldogs, if they can get a de-listed player as a swap for one of their early draft picks, they will be on the way. Suppose (using liberal amounts of imagination) Collingwood have a few who have not signed yet, Wellingham as a utility or O'Brien as a backman...

Why all the hate for Hawthorn?

Geelong fans should not be too bitter, how many games have you guys lost in the past 6 years, 9?

Western Bulldogs need to start getting balance

I am sure the guy in your pic demonstrates you are wrong. You guys were shafted when Ward went to GWS, he is only two seasons away from winning a Brownlow. If he stayed, and with your list (look at the workrate of Boyd, I saw him play earlier this year and he went off the ground for ~5 minutes...

Lifting a player up on the goal line to rush a goal

Maric is the kind of guy who was born out of his time, he is the closest person we will ever get to Thor in the 21st Century. He would be much more at home, drinking mead and arm-wrestling other Viking Gods, perhaps defeating a few frost giants before tucking into a boar before bedtime.

Rain forecasted for weekend. Which team will that suit more.

Swans are going to stink this game up, the wet will help them, the flood will be larger than what Noah had to get through, but I do not think this will help their attacking with Gibson in their way.

Society/Culture Gina Rinehart says "jealous" poor should have less fun/wants minimum wage cut

The deals, which lifted her wealth to $29.17 billion, according to the BRW Rich 200 List, makes her the eighth-richest person in the world... Mrs Rinehart made her debut on the Rich List in 1992 at $75 million after inheriting Hancock Prospecting from her father...

Western Bulldogs need to start getting balance

One of the things that struck me about what Clarkson said last night, is that if a club continually play in prelims the door will open for them. This does not seem to be the case for the Doggies, since the inception of the AFL they have been in 1992, 1997, 2008, 2009, and 2010 prelim finals...

    State vs State.... isn't it?

    Sydney to beat lazy Hawks

We are going to see some serious flooding by the Swans this weekend, Swans Half Forward line will start at the Hawks 50m arc

On current form, Sydney should be flag favourites

To the OP; if by form you mean accuracy in front of goals, than yes, I concur, Swans will win, but only just.

Why all the hate for Hawthorn?

As a matter of fact, I used to be a Hawthorn hater, back in the eighties, I went to the doctor and my doctor said, 'Yeah Gods man! Look at your bile levels, what is wrong with you?!?' I told him I hated Hawthorn and he immediately recommended that I should start hating Collingwood at least twice...

Why all the hate for Hawthorn?

Sorry I forgot to mention my point, you cannot take away too much satisfaction from being a Hawthorn hater than a Collingwood hater, ergo, it is easier and more satisfying to hate Collingwood.
  25. E

Why all the hate for Hawthorn?

Yeah well a person only needs to look at Collingwood's 2002-2012 record to get some satisfaction, i.e. five Grand Finals for 3 losses, 1 draw and 1 win, 2 prelim final losses, and then another couple of semi/elimination final losses to boot. But then look at Hawthorn, 1 prelim loss, 1...

    Dangerfield

I read something on Dangerfield once, some of his junior coaches said 'you just have to point him (Dangerfield) in the right direction and he will do the rest'. One day during his Under 13s the team captain accidently poined the wrong way to his team after winning the toss and Dangerfield kicked...

    Baaaaaaaaaaaaaallllll !!!!!!!!!

I agree, I went to the footy with a 2000x magnified telescopic lens SLR LCD camera, with built in Infra-red and X-ray specs to see if I can see what is going on under those packs... no luck, I do not know how the umpies make their call
  28. E

Why all the hate for Hawthorn?

I think it is illusionary due to a handful of reasons 1) There is not much been said hatefully of other clubs because they are not left in the competition. 2) People are more likely to write on a forum about something they are disappointed about (if you had a regular meal at your favourite...

Lifting a player up on the goal line to rush a goal

Sorry I was talking about the rule change 1924 according to Ron the Bear, I just do not know why the rule was not enforced Bears vs Bulldogs
  30. E

Lifting a player up on the goal line to rush a goal

So if the rule came about in the early 1900s as mentioned above, this technically should have been a 50m to Beasley? I remember the game, I wanted the Bears to win, because back in those days the winning teams mascot would do a dance on the screen (a cartoon), and I had yet to see the Bears mascot.
