    Toast Northball

Didn't Clarko fly overseas to work with Ange? Makes sense the birth of Northball. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts before clubs plan to counteract it. I'm sure it will become refined through the year and coming years. At least there's a consistent game plan for all the boys...

Hope the young fella at Therry Penola is going okay. Bad leg break a couple minutes into the 3rd. Game called off and taken away by ambulance. Talented player

    Opinion Commentary & Media VII

The uproar in the media and with other clubs hopefully shows we're on the right track. For all the comments that we've put ourselves in this position, they're certainly becoming contradictory when they feel we're now taking advantage of the system. Finally we have some strong leadership off...

Preview Round 14 changes v dogs @marvel Sunday 4:40pm before the bye

Not sure if there is another thread for this, but is there a go to pub for before and after North games? Do we tend to gather at somewhere like platform 28 or mail exchange, etc?

    Opinion Commentary & Media VI

I don't understand either. I was up behind the goals last Sunday and you can clearly see we still are playing a zone. It really stopped their ball movement when it was set up well. There were occasions where we didn't protect the corridor well enough and this was when they would cut us up.

Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke [Part II] - [Herald Sun] LDU has parked contract talks with the club & is expected to command offers of more than $1m a season

Trying to turn this into a positive, hopefully it allows the other mids to develop and not rely on LDU. Already think Phillips is playing better. Helped Cunnington when Swallow was out for a year. Just hope they can all mesh when LDU eventually returns.

    D1 Division 1 - 2023

Interesting to see most have Oakleigh being relegated at the end of the season. Only team to defeat PEGS last year. I know Peninsula struggled last year, but any reason they can't bounce back?

Past #10: Ben Cunnington - will retire from the AFL after * game - 238 games/95+ goals/2x Syd Barker Medalist/Shinboner - thanks for everything Cunners

Anyone else noticed he seems to be a lot more open to the social media team? Might be reading too much into it, but I feel like he has a fresh perspective and seems a bit more comfortable out of his shell. Can't wait to see him play next year

    Review 2022 AFL National (& Rookie) Draft(s) Thread II (North's picks - Sheezel, Wardlaw, B.George, Harvey, Drury,Free,Howe,Turner)

Would North go into the draft thinking that mid sized players develop quicker compared to key position players? Considering we want to improve quickly, maybe we will be focusing on free agency or mature players to find our KPP like Logue and CCJ.

Player Watch #44: Cameron Zurhaar - [AFL.com] NM offers 5yr deal - CZ interest from SYD/GC - CZ mgr says 'wants to see improvement' & 'team success'

Essentially just called him out for wanting a trade from a bottom side that picked him first in the draft. Mentioned that he should have a heart and be apart of building the club again. Then said he's half the player of Nick Daicos. Woodford is naturally a loud mouth, but there's 6-8 North boys...

Player Watch #44: Cameron Zurhaar - [AFL.com] NM offers 5yr deal - CZ interest from SYD/GC - CZ mgr says 'wants to see improvement' & 'team success'

Cam's off season S & C coach also posted a rant a while ago about JHF and his pea heart when it first came out he was asking to leave. Probably says a bit about the group's thoughts as a lot of the young North boys train at WoodfordSSC. Woodford also trained the Daicos boys and has a soft spot...

    Player Watch #12: Jy Simpkin - 2021 & 2022 Syd Barker Medalist - 2023 co captain with LMac - re-signed until end of 2029

I feel like you could see Jy's kicking improve towards the end of the year anyway. It's not his kicking that I think is his problem, it's his decision making. Or lack of. Towards the end of the year I felt he would find the outlet with his kicking and would hit targets more often than not...

Past #6: Jason Horne-Francis - NM have been informed by JHF's management that he will seek a trade to SA [contracted for 2023]

You'd hope the club act professionally about this and take all emotion out of it. If he doesn't want to be here, then p*** off. A strong culture and buy in from everyone builds success, not an individual. What's the point of keeping him for 12 months when his value is likely to deteriorate...

Coach Alastair Clarkson III - new NMFC senior coach until at least end 2027 - NMFC board approved AC to start 1/11 amid ongoing HFC racism investigation

I also held the same opinion, but popped on the rose coloured glasses when we signed him. Now I'm back to square one. Based on his statement I believe his legal teams objective is to make this as muddy as possible so that North are forced to commit to the 5 year contract. They'll only worry...

    Player Watch #8: Bailey Scott

In a 22 player team sport, no individual is greater than the team. Sure, we can live without Scott but I believe we are worse team without him. GAJ didn't win any premierships at GC, Fyfe still yet to win one and the Hawthorn dynasty continued without a generational talent in Buddy.

    Player Watch #8: Bailey Scott

Just my two cents, but yes, Scott is the difference for our future success. If players like Scott are in our bottom 6 players picked each week, then that is the point of difference for a premiership side. Geelong recognise this, they have their A graders, but great teams are reliant on their...

    Player Watch #8: Bailey Scott

I don't think you can Bradbury a top 3 bnf. That indicates consistency over a year. If Geelong are into him, it says a bit about his quality of football

    Prediction Sonja Hood

I feel like she sat down with Barrett. In exchange for a more positive spin on our club he could break the news about Clarko. Seems to be a correlation between no more leaks and Barrett being slightly more reasonable.

Saw that Breust and Gunston are open to moves. I think either would add valuable experience to our list and help teach our forwards.

List Mgmt. Geoff Walsh | Returns to NMFC for a short-term advisory role

If reports are correct and we do sign Clarko, do we expect the report findings will come out in a similar timeframe in an attempt to reduce the media scrutiny? That or Clarko has agreed to sign on knowing the report recommendations and feels he can address the identified issues? Which is...

    Certified Legendary Thread Alastair Clarksons.

Oh god, this is setting up to be Josh Kelly and Dusty all over again. If there's one life lesson I learnt from supporting North, it's don't get your hopes up. Please note, I only say this to protect myself from utter disappointment.

Analysis Ricks Analysis (The Shinboner Blog)

It's funny, Friday night I was talking about North with a mate and mentioned how we find it so difficult to score. I have thought at times we compete well, but then it's so easy for the opposition to pile on multiple goals and we can't respond. Saturday was the first time we were able to score...

    Autopsy Collingwood Ducks v Roos

Never understood the hate for ducking for a free. Both Curtis and JHF in our own side do it. Lindsay Thomas was an early pioneer for it. Teams need to see it as an opportunity to win the ball back. If you tackle them properly, that's their prior and it's holding the ball. If players are trying...

Player Watch #21: Callum Coleman-Jones - out for season after suffering Achilles rupture vs CFC on GoodFriday - go well CCJ

I think he's more dynamic and offers more to the team than Xerri. Think he worked well in tandem with Goldy. Hope he continues to improve the rest of the year and show his VFL form at AFL level

Player Watch #9: Luke Davies-Uniacke - signs until end 2025! Runner up in the 2022 Syd Barker Medal Award

Can't wait till we're a consistent competitive side. It will allow LDU to genuinely win games for us

Past #26: Tarryn Thomas - Roo until end '24

I came to post the same thing. F*** the media and innuendo, he's going nowhere and he will show the competition how much of a gun he is. Progress isn't linear, people need to show some patience
