True.
Yes they are.
However unlike other Hawthorn supporters you are very reluctant to forecast where your Hawks will finish this year. They are currently $6 for the 8. Now that is tremendous value. ;) Have you got them in the finals
Agreed. I don't dismiss them . I would question them. And your right, some will make it / some will not. And the half dozen names you mention. As an outsider , I hardly know any of them , but none of them would have played 10 games .[ I think] You also have a couple of green young rucks to...
Walker -God I remember him. Someone described him as going to be a gun.
And Harry Jones and Jackson Ross were going to be top AFL players  I don't even know who these guys are I must admit. And don't start me on Ryan Burton the year earlier!
But that probably to a degree , answers this...
I haven't gone into the split up of the picks . It's the amount of picks Hawthorn stockpiled which gave them the chance of success years later. You are always going to have hits and misses no matter how good your recruiting department is. Your Ellis [ ok] Thorp. Dowler, busts , but striking...
Correct. And that's not counting 3 years earlier in 2001 where the Hawks began their rebuild with trading for picks and had 5 inside 36 including No 1.
Now that is investing in the draft. :thumbsu:
Invested nothing is wrong . And your right with your stats. :thumbsu: But the investment hasn't been huge. For the old buggers like me who remember the last Hawthorn rebuild all those years ago.
Last 3 years 2019 -21
8 first /second rounders
2 top 10's - 6, 7
3 years 2004 - 2006
13 first...
Decent side isn't it, without being spectacular.
Like for like. For mine .
Sharman for Wood
Paton for Webster down the track.
Bytel for DMac
The 3 changes I've done I've gone for youth as we have enough experience in the side. But certainly your ins I have no issue with.
Cautiously...
Very well put. If you look at the TOTE the bottom 5 sides are well clear on spoon betting before the 6th favourite Freo. So it's reasonable those 5 sides are spoon contenders. 3 of those sides are in various stages of rebuilding which means they are not contending and finals are not expected ...
Yeah, Ross and Billings have both been good solid B graders haven't they. Ross always higher on the b and f count cause of durabilty and where he plays. Both good servants of the club. We hold Billings to a higher account due to his high pick and higher potential though . Disappointing career -...
My ladder has the Pies for the spoon in what looks like being a very even year like 1976 when they first saluted to the appreciation of most of Melbourne .:thumbsu:
Not just this thread for Hawks sensitivities. :padlock:
On these threads the most vocal and vitriolic are the ones who are the...
Yeah, I got what he was saying. And I agree. All more than handy players . I think leadership at the Hawks is not a big issue like some other clubs I could name.
Kings not A grade yet. Like most Saints We have high hopes he will. Steele is our only A grader. Harry McKay is a 2 goal a game now and kicked just on 60 en- route to the Coleman last year. I would describe him as an A grader as we speak. Your tall forwards have a long way to go , but you would...
Factually correct I'd say.
Dom has his Hawks 10th so nowhere near spoon calculations. On the basis of Hawthorn not being thrashed repeatedly last year like my poor old Saints , where have you placed the Hawks in 2022
Generally find him reasonably consistent and durable. Just don't see him becoming a AA player or a b and f winner at the club. Think 4th is his highest ranking. If he can do that again I would be extremely happy.
Yep. 2 things count against him despite his excellent record.
A] his negative game-plan not sealing the deal in big games
B] how he left his clubs.
If he'd snuck the Saints or Dockers over the line for a flag , I don't think their long suffering fans would have minded mind you
Agreed- but I've given up on him being the player we hoped. Think he'll give us a few more years of good service but don't think he'll be an A grader like Steele.
I suppose we have to rate Buddy as the biggest mercenary of all
who left for the biggest contract and biggest amount of $. He didn't find success at the new club. Interesting if he has any regrets. Might have to wait for his book.
What's Billings 26 - 150 games ?
I think what he is he is - good player and servant . Don't think he's ever going to be a star. Unfortunately.
The other 3 are younger . Clark IMO could become a top liner .
13 years - made 3 grand finals and 3 prelims in 6 of the years and win rate of 58%. I must admit I find it difficult to rate him. His last few years at Freo certainly tarnished his reputation. Didn't like his game style , but coaches coach to win not please the fans. Ken Hinkley into his 10th...
Even year - North could improve with another couple of wins and 10% . It's not going to happen overnight. Gold Coast - really shouldn't with the talent on the list, but I suppose few of us have faith in them to get it right.
I'm no hater - had only been to one grand final in 97 in over 2 decades before his arrival. So sneaking to 3 in 2 years was great but devastaing at the end of 2011 to realise the group would not salute. He's my age . Personally don't see him coaching again. Few years out of the caper makes it...
These figures I reckon are fact except for the picks come this October but most would have the picks I've allocated here about the same mark.
Seeing this will be the 7th year since the Hawks last saluted , I'll use these 7 years as a comparison to the 7 years at the turn of the century . So...
2 years max, I don't see it. Only time will tell who is right or wrong.
Envy of us. Well course it is. For passionate supporters who buy membership tickets and go every week and have been to all finals and grand finals for decades without success, they would love to have had a fraction of the...
Beautiful. Killer. Well you've answered my question, regards Hawks who share my opinion on their own club. Media hype . Well I suppose we don't value journalists that highly. Lewis copped a short back and sides from your president and Bucky's list analysis got a hiding from Hawks on social media...
