Plenty of dumb points been made in this thread but ranking Nick Riewoldt and especially Pavlich with Rance and not Scarlett has to take the cake. Their primes literally overlap with Scarlo while Rance's first All-Australian was one when they were 32 and 31 respectively.
More accurate list would...
Pressure for Cats, Demons, Lions, Tigers, Swans, Pies, Port, Blues, Freo and Bulldogs to make finals. It'll be interesting to see who misses out, chances are one will be unlucky through injury and one more will straight up fail to play to expectations. I doubt the three Big4 clubs all make it...
2005/06 are underrated here. High scoring =/= entertaining, they were intense and hard fought with around 4-5 legit great players present. Easily better games than 2016/21 IMO.
Almost like the AFL has been changing/introducing rules at the end of every season for years. I guess the dogs are to blame for the new time wasting crackdown.
I think you're forgetting Stewart Loewe, multiple time AA who kicked more goals than any of Dunstalls teammates. I agree with you that Plugger wouldn't have kicked 1700 goals or whatever people claim. The larger slice of the smaller cake pretty much cancels eachother out IMO.
Jack Henry Mark Blicavs Mark O'Connor
Tom Stewart Sam de Koning Jed Bews
Mitch Duncan Patrick Dangerfield Isaac Smith
Jon Ceglar Brandan Parfitt Cameron Guthrie
Quinton Narkle Jeremy Cameron Sam Menegola
Bradley Close Tom Hawkins Francis Evans
INT: J. Selwood E. Ratugolea S. Simpson Z. Tuohy...
I was unclear, I meant to say only one of Henry or Kolodjashnij in the team at the same time which is why I left out Kolo in my 22. Bews was unlucky to be left out but I think Tuohy can play the small lockdown role and Clark takeover Tuohy's roles further up the field.
Finally settled on the 22 I'd like to see in 2021
Jack Henry Mark Blicavs Mark O'Connor
Tom Stewart Lachie Henderson Zach Tuohy
Mitch Duncan Patrick Dangerfield Sam Menegola
Rhys Stanley Brandan Parfitt Cameron Guthrie
Quinton Narkle Jeremy Cameron Shaun Higgins
Gryan Miers Tom Hawkins Luke...
Well if you begin comparing eras then the 80s fall away pretty quick as well, even the current North Melbourne team would win minimum 8 in a row if they were transported back then. Which brings us back to threepeat Lions, interstate side threepeat one of which came against the reigning premiers...
Wont comment on the OP, but Richmond's back 6 of Grimes, Rance, Broad, Vlaustin, Atsbury and Houli is one of the most impressive i've ever seen, closest to 07 Harley, Scarlett, Milburn, Enright, Egan and Mackie IMO
Its really not that shocking, current 18 yo draft age utensils up a lot of kids education and subsequent career pathways, realistically not many of the crop will be able to make a living outta footy yet the most important year of their life so far for both football and education happen...
Unless the draft age is raised to 19 (should have been done years ago) and is pushed forward a year, then we got 3 first rounders from a more developed crop. Got me salivating just thinking about it.
George Moloney, Gary Malarkey and Tim Kelly to name a few, always wondered whether this was just the "Polly" effect or do we have other links to WA as well.
??? There was a ton of spud service in the 80s/90s especially if you played for a poor side, idk if you got some nostalgia glasses on or what but this is quite a strange opinion to hold. Dunstall was the spearhead of a top 3 side in the history of the sport that scored far more often than any...
Never thought I'd see the day Jonathan Brown is rated higher than GAJ but here we are. No Kernahan is strange and I don't get what "seen" means here, wouldn't he have seen the likes of Leigh Matthews whilst watching football when he was young.
Gary Dempsey (Brownlow/ATG status), Scott Wynd (Brownlow), Luke Darcy (MVP) and Norman Ware (Brownlow). Hardly a "tradition of tall spuds" in fact you could count on one hand the amount of teams that have had ruck history as strong as the dogs.
Got blown out half way through the second and both teams cruised to the finish. Not much to take from this game apart from Grundy = god and Gardner = spud
Ah, thanks for letting me know. Is Gowers not 100% as well? seems to me like he'd do well along side Bruce and Naughton playing as a marking medium forward.
Charlie Constable for us
Other Teams:
Jackson Hately (Hopefully gets more game time)
Marlion Pickett
Bailey Dale
Daniel Venables (Hopefully can stay healthy)
No, but said performance shouldn't be used to discredit the rest of his career especially considering it contains 2 MVPs 2 Brownlows and a number of strong final performances.
