I had this discussion at work one day, and my argument for was met with incredulity (these guys at work were hard-core rugby and league followers).
My point was that AFL players were world class in their football-specific skills, fitness, athletic ability within the confines of an elite-level...
He's a member of a minority -- a mere 2 or 3% of the Australian population -- who is articulate enough to advance his people's cause.
How that message is accepted is the problem here, it seems.
Thing is, the majority of Goodes' off-field work is related to Indigenous issues, and that is what we see, so it's pretty obvious what problem people have with Goodes.
So let me get this straight:
You despise Goodes for what he has done for his people OFF the football field, i.e. a greater awareness of Indigenous issues, and in your personal experience that goes for everyone around you? But you accord him some respect (begrudgingly I must add) for his efforts...
Goodes' reaction to someone in the crowd abusing him was instinctive.
He said his heart dropped (or words to that effect) when he realised that that someone he pointed at was a young girl.
He, along with AD, would later implore the media, yes, the media, to not demonise said girl.
The discomfort...
I don't have a passport, but I've seen a fair bit of Australia; its cities, its highways, its large regional centres, the back of Bum* and beyond.
So I guess the regrets that I have at not (yet) having travelled overseas is off-set by having seen a lot of own country.
Use the following terms:

Beerey

If you find yourself using these terms, give yourself an uppercut, *en dickhead campaigner!

Don't know but my first two cars were (early '70s HG Holden ute, and a 1968 Falcon XT sedan). Learnt how to drive with three-on-the-tree, loved 'em.
Back onto the early Falcons, I owned four of them in the '90s:
1968 XT Falcon sedan (blue), 250, three-speed (on. the tree) -- took me up and down...
In my experience, it gets physically, emotionally, mentally (and spiritually?) tiring maintaining a belief in something that is obviously not for me, so I tend to let go, move on and hopefully learn from whatever it was. This doesn't display a weakness, rather a kind of strength to admit one...
I have a good female friend I have known for a few years who is 28; her BF of around 6 months is 51! She is quite hot so old mate must have the goods :)
If most of you guys know my age by now you would either be pleased or repelled that a 20-year-old hit on me at the weekend (8/10).... and she...
Some people should know better.
This kid had some impairment yet he saw whatever weakness in you, bullied you and got away with it for however long. You reached a point where you reacted with what you could see was a weakness in him.
