    1993 pre-season Adelaide beat us by about a million points. Probably our (then) greatest club legend Schimma was sacked. We had no major sponsor, no captain and no coach. I reckon the club was not far from going broke. That moment made the next decade all the more amazing really.

    Ok so I get all this "every player has to earn their spot" stuff… … but really McDonald is going to be a star and we just need to get 100 games into him as quickly as possible. I wouldn't be dropping him unless he has a real crisis of confidence or drops his standards around preparation etc...

    Jeeze there's a lot negativity on this thread. The point of following a footy team is to watch them playing against the best teams in front of big crowds. Not to beat a glorified TAC Cup team in front of 16,000 people. If we're good enough to challenge we'll win games. If not, we'll know soon...

    True except that North and the Dogs get AFL money to promote the game in Melbournes growth areas in the west that have big newly arrived communities. So it is growing the game - in Victoria.

    I have to say the carry-over points from pre-season are dodgy. If he'd been suspended in pre-season, he would have served it in pre-season. But if he only gets a reprimand, the points carry over and potentially increase a suspension in the real season. What's the logic in that? If he got an...

    Saw in the paper today that Hansen had 5 tackles yesterday. Sure he needs more of the ball than he got yesterday but his contesting on the ground has noticeably improved. Doubt he had 5 tackles a season before this year.

    Gets extra bonus points for giving my 3yo daughter a footy after the game on Sunday.Fumbled it on the way to the fence to give it to her. On Sunday's form I would have expected that from Lachie Hansen.

    One grabbed it today when others were fumbling. Good by hand, ok by foot. One of his better games. Will build in the next month I think and give the coaches something to think about.

    Possible bases for appeals are here (page 5 of the handbook): http://www.afl.com.au/tribunal%20system/tabid/13707/default.aspx Error of law is the main one. Possibly we could argue that 4 weeks is manifestly excessive, but it's a high bar to reach.

    Two more positives: -the niggle and physicality in a big game - that we adapted from kamikaze handball early on to a better balance. Worry with Tarrant tonight was how many times he was out marked rather than breaking even. Still, they need to persist with him. I like Edwards but can't see him...
