It's a contact sport with a lot of crash and bash, particularly with Sydney's contested game style. Pendles even said at half time that he likes the game that way. People get way too precious, looking for things that aren't really there.

I'm not too good for it, the show is just really boring. They talk more about themselves than they do about the footy and they endlessly repeat their little in jokes.
You make a really good point about the development too. When the young players a picked for their first few games, they seem to step seamlessly into their roles and very rarely fail us. This is a massive advantage that we have over other clubs.
I'm surprised you were so level-headed in your reply about Ball, I was expecting something a bit more "passionate". ;)
