Review Round 11, 2023 - Adelaide vs. Brisbane Lions

Not sure why we played 3 Tall forwards when its raining. How silly.

Fagan already said Dizzy will play another VFL game. Gunston for Fort. Ah Chee for Berry (Berry can have a rest) Lyons sub again

Review Round 1, 2023 - Port Adelaide vs. Brisbane Lions

We need go play Joyce until Gardner is back, and move Rainer back in forward 50/ midfield. Rainer is a waste behind the ball. Bad coaching move. Joyce can always be subbed out if we need to change tact during the game.

    Training 2023 Pre-season thread

Lions have Levi Ashcroft in 2024, likely to be top 5, so I believe we will trade our 2024 1st rounder for 2023 1st rounder next year. We will just look to get points for the 2024 draft to match for Levi.

List Mgmt. Have the Cats redefined how to build a Premiership side?

Full credit to Geelong. We underestimate just how good Selwood and Hawkins are. Any team with the current free agency can stay up there with those two players at their peak. They timed the run well and got a little lucky with injuries. Hats off. In 2023, Selwood retiring is a massive loss, both...

Game Day Grand final thread (feat. inexperience watch)

You missed the positives. Dunkley nominating Brisbane, Ashcroft winning best young player, Fletcher winning best academy player, McStay going allows for better forward structure. 3 Talls didnt work. Also, Fagan will be back.

    Review Season in review 2022

I think Brisbane needs to develop the team further and rotate more through the system. Not playing Robertson, Wilmot & Lohmann consistently is an issue. I think the coaching staff worked this out in the end, but it was too late. The offseason will tell me how serious they are, as Sydney...

    Analysis Inexperience watch

Not sure Geelong's age is a weapon. I expect Lions to run all over them if we can keep it close in the first half. Pressure will mount on Geelong if we keep it close, especially as its a knock out 👍

    Prelim - Changes / Discussion v Cats

Out: Kardinia Park In: MCG Take Geelong away from Geelong where that ground is not a ground and they are very beatable.

    Non-Lions discussion 2022

Geelong are always the best team in home and away footy. Real stuff is just around the corner.

Unofficial Preview Round 21 v the Blues @ The Gabba.

Out : Zorko, Robbo, McStay, Cockatoo, Lyons, Gardner In : Starc, Dev, Lohmann, Prior, Tunstill, Payne The Lions are too slow, and have too many players that have lost considerable pace. Even Zorko today looked slow. We are 5 players away that are developed from really make the big difference...

    List Mgmt. Our youth/flag window?

Lions do need to move on from Zorko, Rich, Robinson & Lyons in order to take the next step. They have been great players but are now on the slower side of the game and are exposed against the younger teams The Lions need a mini-reset to get back into the window.

Preview Round 7, 2022 - Sydney vs. Brisbane Lions

I dont think the Lions will lose to Melb in the Prelim. Lions are clearly the 2nd best side, will finish top 2 and meet Melbourne in the GF. The fact we play Melb twice on the home stretch will tune the Lions up to know how to best beat them when it really matters on the big day.

    Non-Lions discussion 2022

Its only R5. Just need to finish top 2 and meet them in the GF. Anything can happen in the GF. Big MCG games favours big Talls, I would be confident if we can have a fit Daniher, Hipwood and McStay. We are right in the mix.

Review Round 23, 2021 - Brisbane Lions vs. West Coast

Anyone blaming umpires have simply forgotten about Bailey in Rd 2 against Geelong.

Review Round 18, 2021 - Richmond vs. Brisbane Lions

The issue is a pretty easy fix. We simply cant have 3 players who are very slow out of the backline. Burchall, Lester & Rich together is way too slow. If you recall against Geelong, Burchall and Lester didnt play and we looked quick from rebound out of defense. On top of the backline, having...

Review Round 2, 2021 - Geelong vs. Brisbane Lions

I like what they are doing with Sharp and Prior. Its all about pace. I just dont like our backline, its way too slow and is not helping us deliver to forward 50. We need Gardner and Ainsworth back imo as we cant carry Ah chee, Burchall, Lester, Rich and Robinson who are all on the slower side...

Review Preliminary Final, 2020 - Brisbane Lions vs. Geelong

Doesnt matter how many goals Geelong missed in the first half or how much they should have been on front, they werent. Bad kicking, is bad footy. Very simple. I still believe we had our chances to put pressure on if we took our chances, and put forward pressure on. When we played them at the...

Review Preliminary Final, 2020 - Brisbane Lions vs. Geelong

Scoreboard pressure is the number 1 stat in finals footy. Whilst our midfield was challenged, we had quite a few opportunities going forward and we butchered our kicks. This is part due to a disorganised forward 50 and our talls not opening up space so the midfield can kick to advantage. Geelong...

List Mgmt. Morning, Joe! (was The Daniher (Probably Mega-)thread)

Also depends where the player was drafted. Daniher was a top 10 selection, and Rockliff was pre season draft. This is a key factor, hence why Essendon would get pick 7.

Preview Finals Week One: Brisbane Lions vs Richmond Tigers @ The Gabba, Friday Oct 2, 7:50pm

Simply comes down to our goal kicking and whether the umps fall for their free kick attempts and how they look for cheap ones, especially against the tide of the game when we have the flow. If we do well in these areas and keep scoreboard pressure on, we should be fine.
  23. L

    Lions Season 2020

We can beat Richmond, as long as the umps dont continue to get sucked in by there staging. That real dodgy free and 50 in last years QF against Richmond changed the whole momentum of the game, and it was soft as and typical. Up until this point, we were smashing them.

Unofficial Preview Changes & discussion Round 15 v the Magpies @ Gabba- Friday night blockbuster.

Less game time in 2020 by 20%, this makes a big difference, especially late in quarters. Condensed schedule doesnt work in the favor of older players either. You will see this across the board in the AFL for +30 year okds, this is not a great comparison. Mitch is OK, I do think the Lions should...

    List Mgmt. 2020 Trade Watch

We should use the picks to target Rory Sloane. Put him in our midfield and we would easily be the standout team to beat. As he is 30, we should take advantage of the window with Rich, Zorko etc in the next few years.

Review Round 1, 2020 - Hawthorn vs. Brisbane Lions

Dont take it too hard. We played away from home, clearly didnt play well today and it still took a 37 year old to beat us. Lets not forget our average age was only 25 with 97 games experience. Compared that to Hawthorn at 28 with 147 games experience. We are still young compared to most...
