I was all set to go to the game in Sydney next week as I haven't been to a Cats' game in years, but the recent string of insipid performances really has me questioning whether or not this would simply be an enormous waste of time and money (especially as I was going to take some recent...
Sometimes being a Catter and living in glorious isolation here in Sydney can be way too far away from where my heart really wants to be. At least it does mean that I can go out to that nice little ground at Homebush on Saturday week at his last home & away game up here, wearing the Blessed...
G'day - I'm heading off to hospital in an hour's time to have a triple by-pass, so I won't be back around these parts any time soon.
I hope that you all have a brilliant festive season.
See you on the other side.
Somebody please remind me. Who was the last bloke about whom it was suggested that they should be drowned? "The Parrot" Jones suggested it about our first female Prime Minister, and now two gutless, entitled, white male presidents of under achieving clubs have suggested it about a female...
Winning is a heart warming feeling, and sure, it's nice warm glow time to be sitting on top of the tree. For now.
But what really fires up the passion is that we are doing it as per the song: "We play the game, as it should be played". I can show any sports fan the replay of a game like this...
As much as I liked the win (and our opponents fell apart after quarter time because we basically tore out their hearts and had them as a TV dinner), the miserly defence and the final margin, what Really got my heart pumping is that we were exciting. No, sorry: Exciting! You don't have to be...
I think that Boris is going the way Boris always meant to go.
Quietly and proudly, with no fuss or bullsh!t.
It's no surprise, so I hope his ride into the sunset is every bit as good as the long wild ride which preceded it.
Go Cats!
Yeah, that was the pic that wrecked my steely self resolve and poise as well.
I just want to say that I love our club.
And especially the fans of our club, our community by Corio Bay.
We are Geelong!
I'm still kind of sorry about the season effectively ending right here right now, but then I've felt pretty much the same since 2012 on. But I'm (strangely) not particularly bitter about it.
I'd always seen this season as being a 2006 Redux, but I had hoped that a fleeting foray into finals'...
I've taken off my scarf and hooped jumper, and put them - like this season - back in mothballs. An insipid, disorganised and seemingly disinterested rabble like this has no legitimate claim to playing in September. And I am gutted that the only team putting their bodies on the line and with...
This phase we're in kind of reminds me of the early noughties, which were occasionally ugly, often frustrating, and which evolved into a period of the very very specials. Still, even putting aside long term gains for the moment, i has to be said that it's always good to win, period.
Even if...
I went to vote for myself, and I'm not even on the list?????
I suppose it was just because I didn't actually post in 2014, but I thought that you lot would have at least appreciated a break from my usual diatribes.
;)
GO CATS!
It's true that there is at least one thing worse than winning ugly, and that we just managed to avoid it. Congrats to GWS for playing fully to their potential, which was exactly the same standard to which we played as well. It was an incredibly fugly game to watch, with so many "couldn't care...
One definite in.
Me.
It'll be the first game I've been able to get to this season!!! (But I still won't be at the first Almanac get together in Sydney for roughly 4 years on Sunday.)
I'll be sitting behind (or adjacent to) the cheer squad if anybody wants to come by.
There's a post earlier in this thread that points out the good news: Carlton won a flag once in a season where they got pasted by precisely 100pts.
The bad news is that it was 70 odd years ago.
;)
I want you all to calm down for a sec, take a deep breath, and look on the bright side (think of this as your Life of Brian moment).
Pretty much all who have posted here do not, like me, actually live in Sydney. Your non-Geelong peers, pals and personal pains will pass over this in...
Thank you for your generous comments (and to those other Hawthorn posters for the same).
But look on the bright side:
We may be top right now, but you'll still be everybody else's premiership favourites.
;)
I'm sitting here in my silent solitude, eyes moist with emotion, not quite grasping what has actually happened today. I get the glorious reality of the result, but the logic of it utterly beggars belief.
Oh WTF, "We are Geelong, The Greatest Team of all. We are Geelong ...... ".
BTW MowShow...
Love the thread, but only have one suggestion (but don't sweat - it's contentious).
5. Polly Farmer (c). He never knocked out any team mate at the social club, actually won a premiership, played with incredible pain through most of his time with us but never let it stop him, and he totally...
I think that the general flow of this thread has been diddly-bopping along quite energetically, albeit totally in the wrong direction.
Abraham Lincoln once famously said, "There are lies, damned lies, and statistics". Debating something almost entirely along the lines of x successes in y years...
Before the game, I almost changed my position on this game. Pav is an absolute adornment to the game (his speech after the game was supremely classy) and champions like him truly deserve to experience the glory that comes with winning premierships, it'd be nice to see the most senior club yet to...
Perfect article in The Age, which completely encapsulated my feelings about tomorrow to a tee (and then, the cherry on top of the cake revealed that the author is a fellow Catter.
Article is at...
It may seem kind of perverse, but despite being flat for a couple of days & basically avoiding any & all social contacts this week (especially my brother in law, who knows nothing about footy & only seems to enjoy it when he can sink the slipper in after those rare Geelong losses), I'm actually...
I lived with one of his cousins for 18 months back in the 80s. Nice family, but her dad was a tad obtuse: he never realised that she was cohabiting with a bloke - he just assumed that the reason she never answered her home phone was that she had a busy social & professional life. (As one does...
I think that, by their behaviour tonight, Gaz & Sel both showed that they are far far more than merely superb footballers.
Both showed that they are true champions. I was so proud of both of them.
GO CATS!
Actually, Shell being big enough and comfortable enough to invite any supporter of any other club merely reinforces my opinion of just how impossibly cool that "dude" is.
Onya, Shell ..... you utter Dude!
