AFL 2018 - Prelim Final - West Coast v Melbourne, Optus Stadium, Sat, Sept 22, 1.20pm WST

Irish bookmakers already have the full betting options up for next Saturday with Collingwood 7 point favourites over the Eagles. Not even bothering to wait for the game to end!

International Rules - Australia v Ireland

That is to assume that the Irish wouldn't improve. If I was to rate both squads in terms of top players selected/available, I'd rank Australia at about 80 to 90% (Dusty, Mitchell, Pendlebury, Ablett etc) . I'd rank the Irish side at about 50%. No player from Dublin who have won 3 in a row...

International Rules - Australia v Ireland

Definitely a huge difference between both games. In Gaelic you don't have the threat of losing possession by being tackled from behind but hugely different in AFL. I played at small bit there (training more than any games) and it was certainly one of the things challenging to get used to.

International Rules - Australia v Ireland

No Irish player gets paid in either Gaelic football or IR. they don't have contracts and they don't get page match day fees of any sort.

Aiden O Shea has a reputation as a diver in Ireland too. This despite his size and strength that he still acts like a pussy at times. Fyfe is having a very good game.

International Rules - Australia v Ireland

If we did that sure then you'd only be moaning that we are beating you at your own game then! :D yeah I'd say its the big games you see. The final would be a 83,000 sell out. Dublin would sell out the quarter finals and semi finals too, but the other semi finals and finals would be north of 60k...

International Rules - Australia v Ireland

as an AFL game or International rules? They can barely get crowds or interest in it as it is, take away any stars of the game and you will get nothing.

International Rules - Australia v Ireland

It is not sustainable here. At all. The structures of the competition, the amount of teams, the lack of home and away games in league format. No TV competition rights to speak of. A small population. Nothing lends itself to making it professional. In Gaelic football, there are 31 irish counties...

    IRS - Australia v Ireland Game 1

Just checked back. It was Chris Johnson, assuming the same Brisbane lions and Irish killer in 2005 Chris Johnson. He was very measured and calm in his comments and spoke well

No didn't get his name, and he didn't sound familiar either like a regular season commentator.

    IRS - Australia v Ireland Game 1

It shouldn't be this bad tho. Ireland easily without the majority of their top players and Australia with the majority of their best, the odds on Australia winning was free money.

The Irish coverage this year is being done by our Irish language station, so unless you can understand commentary as gaeilge then you'd be stuffed! They do have an Aussie guy on for some brief comments from him in English.

    Eh, I'm Irish. * you! ;)

    IRS - Australia v Ireland Game 1

Thing is, it's far from the best Irish team. I don't think there has ever been a series where both sides pick their best. After the last series, with an embarrassing blow out, it was hard to know what kind of team Ireland would take. It's competent, but not near the best available.

Himself and Wingard would be the two I reckon have the skills and ability that would suit Gaelic football best

Australia should win this easy. Far better quality side than the Irish.
