This is pretty much (sadly) true. Some do still have their unique charm however, such as The Churchill Arms near Notting Hill, or the Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese that's been around since just after the Great Fire. The Ship in Wandsworth is good for sunny sundays outside (maybe not the best this time...
I've been very lucky recently. Was living in London when the Olympics were on so I got to enjoy the general atmosphere of the Olympics in a foreign city and got along to the basketball, hockey and table tennis (also ducked out on my lunch break to see the road cycling race go by)
Saw a number...
It's massive and very basic. I like hostels that are a bit smaller, so you get more of a personal and friendly vibe from the staff etc.. but for what it is its good. They seemed pretty organized and it is very much a party hostel. I had the loudest snoring Italian who didn't speak a word of...
Sorry if its been mentioned.. but since the colder weather is coming, nothing beats a nice dark ale on a cold winters afternoon... anyone got any recommendations?
I can't think of the name but when I worked in the UK there was beer (could of been from
Sambrook's brewery?) that was dark and...
Is that near The Generator? haha fond memories of that part of London, it was the first hostel I stayed in when I got to London as an alone and lost 25 year old starting a working holiday... Good times!
Hahah yeah maybe so, but definitely a lot of other Europeans there.. so I didn't mind.
If you like clubs try to get to Fabric.
Pubs/bars.. mid week there isn't a whole lot going on tbh. Best bet is just stumbling into one and talking to a few old geezers. I'd recommend Paramount at Tottenham...
I loved the 5 story club.. each to their own I guess.
Whoops Im a bit late..
What hostel are you staying in? I would definitely do the pub crawl (I didn't when I was there due to mainly being too pissed already when it started) but I've heard its one of the best (along with Budapest)...
Good old Hans Brinker. I loved that Hostel :)
I've never done a tour like this, basically because I like to do my own thing but have heard Contiki is pretty much full of easy girls, not much sleep, a lot of driving and basically just a glimpse of every place. Cool if you just want to say you...
Service and all that is fine, I was unfortunate and had issues with the tv not working on two of my three leg and my old man had similar issues when he came to visit me. Other than that they are great value and the food is fine, service ok etc.. not spectacular but saving a good $300-400 by...
The main reason I use skyscanner is the ability to search whole months for the cheapest price. Im unsure of any other website that allows this? Suits me as im usually flexible enough to allow the price dictate when I travel.
Daniel I'll be interested to hear how that camp goes when you get back. I tried for that a few years ago and didn't get in, might give it another go soon.
Im in Las Vegas airport ready to go home... :( I could seriously live here I reckon (US that is, not Vegas).
Also do people here leave $1...
I'm going back to the US next week, this time from London and meeting up with some mates from back home who I haven't seen for a good 6 months...
Will be going to New York and Vegas which I've been to before but also Miami which I haven't. Any good places to go to nightlife wise or anything...
Think your mate might have been meaning Austin, Texas... a good college town, progressive and plenty of girls that love Australian accents.
Or so I have been told.
Doing it now, yet to get a job although haven't really tried. After the big game tomorrow I will start looking more seriously.
Brighton or Bristol is probably the most likely for the reasons year of the roo mentioned. I didn't mind London and think it would be alright to live there if it was...
Probably a coincidence but about 3 days in I forgot about the water situation and brushed my teeth with tap water etc.. until I realised and washed my mouth out etc.. I then got sick.
Although there were plenty of stuff that could have caused that, most of which involves alcohol. Stick to...
Stubhub is great. You pay a little extra but if you want good seats thats the place to go!
Probably not my favourite place because of the climate and homeless people and it seemed dirty but I think we stayed at the wrong end of town and only for 2 nights.
Will have to go back there some time...
Banyan is nice in Phi Phi, not to far from the pier although on the other side of the island to all the clubs etc.. but only a 10 min walk (unless half pissed like we were and ended up in the middle of nowhere at 1am like 2 kms from where we thought we were)
It is more expensive though, I...
Yeah not expecting to get much pay, just as long as its enough for food/drinks, accom then a little for sightseeing etc..
Really have no idea how long im going for. Depends how I go working over there tbh. If I find somewhere nice that I enjoy I can see myself going there for the whole 2 years...
Fair enough. Was just interested because it looks like im doing similar to you. I'm probably going to end up behind a bar pulling beers getting paid peanuts.. Was interested what other kind of work people are doing there.
Not sure what will be happening for the Olympics, could be some...
I booked through STA. This is the card I got.
I've never flown Qatar but they are meant to be good. I think most middle east airlines are though.
Just a quick search on skyscanner (good website it seems)
Thurs 19th Jan - AUD $940.16 ONE WAY MEL - LON (flying ETIHAD)
Thurs 19th Jan - AUD...
I got a ticket a for late november with Qatar for under $900 one way.. I wouldn't pay much more than that. I got an under 25's youth card for $20 which apparently made the airfare cheaper.
Edit: just noticed you're talking about Germany (my flight is melb-heathrow). Even so, tickets between...
Thanks for that, I'm now flying Qatar Airlines, so will be stopping in Doha for 90 mins then flying out. Going to be a long 30 hours :(
Not a bad point about booking a private room in a hostel then simply moving to a dorm after a couple of days. Might look to do that, it also gives me a chance...
Not sure if this is the right thread..
But I have just booked a flight to London after obtaining my tier 5 YMS working visa...
I'm planning to stay in hostels etc.. for the first couple of weeks before I sort myself out with a job etc.. however I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations...
Have a look on TripAdvisor to see other ones too, The hotel The Old Dark Navy's mentioned looks very nice.
If you want to splash out every now and then on a hotel while over there to break up the hostel stays, perhaps Anaheim isn't the best place to do that since you will likely be away all...
I'm currently looking at perhaps flying Air Asia to London (Gatwick) from Melbourne in late Nov/early December. Air Asia is roughly $400 one way, the next best I can see is Etihad at $750 one way.
I'm thinking a two day break in KL would be good too, or even longer. Anyone know if I need...
